It is the old Doctor from few years ago and his name is Christopher Eccleston as he starred in a programme about John Lennon

It is an amazing transformation though

The career Eccleston has had and he's still referred to as the Doctor. No wonder he wanted to quit after one season.

I wouldn't mind being called doctor for the rest of my life if I had earned the money.

Well he was in the first revamped series, so probably got nowhere near the amount of money David Tennant did.

I think his career earnings outside of that program will have dwarfed his earnings on Doctor Who. He never needed to do it.

Regardless of his financial arrangements, he was (& is) still a good "Doctor" as he brought his own personality to the role & helped keep the audience so we can enjoy the programme it has become in the last five years.

I recall thinking a couple of weeks ago that the episode where the current "Doctor" meets the character 'River Song' (again), "The Time of Angels", [when they land on the planet after she is collecting escaping from the spaceship] that it was a pity that Christopher Eccleston could not have had at least one shared story with that character. Some of his facial expressions (in character) of contempt in the Season One stories would have been perfect in tolerating River's behaviour towards him.

Either way, I'll put my vote in now for Eccleston to play the lead character in "The Prisoner" if Christopher Nolan's cinema-based film take on the original Patrick McGoohan production (and recent mini-series starring James Caviezel) ever goes into production.

BFN,

fp.
