I did that once, forgot for about 3 weeks, as long as you book one asap, you are allowed to drive it to the garage. I wouldnt drive it otherwise.
#3
that happened to me last year...................tomoro first thing call and book your car in and dont drive it until your on your way to MOT as so not worth it.

Your insurance is also invalid due to MOT

yeh i know i have texted the guy i normally go to but no reply yet and he normally does take the holiday off! can hubby get charged for this (by the police i mean is it some sort of offence as long as he dosent drive it?)

its not an offence if he isnt driving it tho if your tax expires it wll need to go in someones driveway so it doesnt get clamped
#10
we get it all the time, end of the month is a nightmare, i can guarantee tommorrow we will get phone calls from desperate people trying to book an mot, we even send out reminders a month before its due & yet they still leave it till the last minute or forget

there is no offical reminder, we do it ourselves to help the customer. when you get your MOT certificate un-peel the reminder sticker from the cert & stick it to the inside of the door pillar, you'll see it everytime you open the door.

my garage used to send these out, good idea used to phone them almost straight away as mot would be 1 year fom when old 1 ran out correct me if im wrong?as long as it was within the month or somethink

got a new car now(well had it a year) so no mots for another 2 years :-)
#16
Something that will be useful to you is to get 6 months rather than a year tax or do next years MOT just as month 11 as passed.
It is a nightmare if 2 items expire on the same date.

I had a problem when insurance and tax fell on same date. If you ever are in the same boat I feel for you. Bought insurance early but couldnt get road tax as the new insurance policy which started with the new month was not showing on the MID as old policy was still running. Cant get road tax if you cant show that you have insurance on the day that road tax starts either online or at post office. My insurance cover note did not arrive in time so had an anxious time wondering if car would be towed away. Think there are a few improvements that could be made to the various databases as sometimes you can seem liable even when all steps are taken to be legal.
#17
Whilst its in your mind..stick a reminder in your mobile phone and see if you can set up an online reminder (I get an email alert from Yahoo). then you should be safe next year:)

After a year, you'll not take any notice of it(sticker in the door pillar).
#19
Why was it up to you to remember about the mot if its your hubby's car?

Because you have already got a new mot before a year is up

Same thing happened with me,looked yesterday and my MOT was a day overdue and hadn`t noticed. When I phoned to book they said next wednesday cos busy:w00t: But after a short conversation explaining my circumstances the lovely man fitted me in yesterday afternoon. All done now, thank goodness for that:-D

He even booked me in as an online booking so got half price.

Agreed

In my current car, my Tax, MOT and insurance all fall in the same month. You cant get the tax unless you're insured and MOT'd.......which is a pain in the bum, 'cos I tend to leave things late.

Luckily my new car arriving on the 20th October should remedy that problem! :whistling:

I used the Nationwide Autocenter voucher from http://www.couponnet.co.uk/CouponWeb/Offers.aspx?pid=11393&nid=10&zid=ho41 and got an MOT for £27

Your insurance is also invalid due to MOT

Not true in all cases, it depends on which company you are insured with.
#26
Lack of a valid MoT does NOT invalidate your insurance. The insurers require that the car is in a roadworthy condition, which the MoT does not certify. If it's roadworthy it's okay as far as the insurance is concerned, certificate or no certificate.

I don't think it's the fact that you do it (everyone helps out don't they) I think it's the fact that you put 'he will kill me'. Makes him sound like a bit of an ogre. Most people would understand an honest mistake not 'kill you'

If i had a car then yeah it would be my responsibility to remember it needs mot. And im sure the poilce would think the same.

Imagine getting stopped, sorry mr poilce officer my wife is supposed to take care of the mot i had no idea it was overdue

Im sure the poilce have heard that excuse a million times and still wouldnt stop them taking the car and crushing it.

So after that i think it should be the drivers responsibilty to make sure there car is road legal
