It's been a long wait with multiple setbacks and engine changes along the way, but earlier this year Square Enix announced that Final Fantasy XV is launching on September 30th. Unfortunately, it appears that a delay is on the way. A source within GameStop management has tipped us off that Square Enix has delayed the game until November 29th. Promotional materials with the new date have arrived at some GameStop stores with instructions that they are not to be put up until after Sunday, August 14th, so an official announcement could be coming then.

The same source that has revealed this information to Gamnesia has proven reliable on multiple occasions in the past. This includes leaking the release dateand trade-in deals for New Nintendo 3DS as well as the release date for Star Wars Battlefront.

Why release it in September when they can get more sales at Christmas is my thinking.

Better late than buggy/broken.

The Square Enix of the modern day is an awful company. Why don't more people realize this?

What does that matter? They make/distribute games I enjoy (FF/hitman) to name a few.. I don't much like Ubisoft nowadays and a few years ago I didn't like EA much but if they make decent games then w/e.

Probably a good thing for me. It means I can get all the smaller games played and finished before starting this one. Have far too many games coming and a possibility of getting PS VR so will want to play all those. Hate starting games and not being able to finish them and I also hate being distracted by other games as I lose focus on the one currently being played. So by releasing it at the end of Nov would be a good thing for me to keep me busy until February when we get even more good games. lol

Delays are usually done for a pretty good reason. Publishers tend to want games out as soon as possible to maximise returns so the fact they've delayed it should mean good things for the game and the players.

Key word there being should. :D

Now gematsu is reporting the same.

http://gematsu.com/2016/08/rumor-final-fantasy-xv-delayed-november-29

Basically, the source who leaked to gematsu the original Sept 30 release has said gamnesia's report is accurate.

Unfortunate, but a necessary move if the dev team has been struggling to get the game stable. Two more months can afford a lot more optimisation.

Basically, it is true:

GameStop employees are being instructed to attach a sticker with the new date over the old date on the FFXV stand.

FF7, 8, 9, sublime games that i played when I had the time and no responsibility, now there is no way i could play a game with this much investment. but to be fair Final Fantasy isn't what it was, 13 was just a joke.

Played 8, hated it. Never played another one since.

But this one is peaking my interest, probably due to the flying transformer cars, and not that awful VR experience

I didn't play very many myself but I did play x-2 back in the day but back then I couldn't remember the name of it. So can just say I started with 13 on PS3. lol. I really enjoyed it. Not so much of 13-2 and didn't play lightning returns. So you should maybe try 13 and defo get x/x-2. I also really enjoyed Type-0 but better off playing x/x-2 first. That's my opinion anyway. A lot of people seem to love ff7 but I don't think it's for us unless you don't mind playing the older games so for me I'm saving it for the remake we are getting. Or you could just jump straight into this if you'd prefer. X/X-2 is my favourite though and then Type-0 comes second.

FFIV. A 3D remake is available on mobile and PC platforms. Then FFV and FFVI because despite the age both still holds up today. I would love to say VII, but the problem with VII is that it has not aged gracefully, whereas VI had (one of the benefits of 2D over early 3D graphics). Better to wait for the remake of VII.

FFIX is superb and still one of the best in the entire series. Just make sure you buy the 60Hz version because the European 50Hz version is godawful slow by comparison. So very glad those 50Hz days are behind us.

From there, you can go for FFX HD Remaster. Despite some big annoyances (voice acting, mostly end game stuff) the characters, story, but especially the battle system are very good. And then wait for FFXII Zodiac Age HD Remaster, which is out next year. I personally adore XII and the Zodiac version is an even better version of the game.

You noticed I skipped some. FFI-III are very much an acquired taste. Very early takes on the RPG. IV is usually best to start with because it was there the full form of FF took place. FFVIII is... I could spend pages detailing what went wrong with VIII. All I will say is it is better to just skip straight to IX and then maybe at the end of an major FF playing stint you might consider checking out VIII.

I would say avoid Type-0. It's just not good on any particular level.

If you can wait for years, you can most definitely wait a few more months?

Only one i have enjoyed in recent years is the remaster of III i would start there its simple enough and has a pretty good story and technically the first FF the West saw.

But I would avoid VII as it just doesn't hold up today, to much nostalgia, and most would be put off if they started there..

IX is a good starting point, and X is one the best and you can get it remastered now, along with X-2 after that I wouldnt bother much,

It's now been officially confirmed.

Update: Game director Hajime Tabata explains that although a Master Version of the game has been completed and work on a substantial day one patch begun, he wishes for this major update to be included on the disc so all players can enjoy the game as intended.

"We completed work on the master version for FINAL FANTASY XV the other day," he explained. "You can think of a master version, as it is known, as what you get on the disc when you buy the game. We felt that the quality of this version will satisfy most players out there.

"And we are currently creating a gameplay video of about 30 minutes in length, based on this master version. The video is due for release on the 16th of August, so when it comes out please take a look and you can check the finish on the master version for yourselves."

He continues: "Our objective with FFXV was to deliver a FINAL FANTASY of the highest possible quality, to every single person who buys the game. We have completed the master version, but when it comes to that highest possible quality, we felt that we had not quite reached this standard yet.

"Accordingly, in order to make this master version an even better product, we have been creating a downloadable add-on known as a patch. This has been worked on with the intention of releasing it on the same day the game comes out, so it would be what people call a "day one patch".

"However, a patch is not something that can be applied by all players who have bought the game. It is impossible to provide this patch to everyone who plays without connecting their games machine to the internet.

"On top of that, the day one patch has pretty substantial content in it, but to me it feels as though it is still one step away from that truly ultimate quality we are striving for."

"I have been thinking about this ever since we completed work on the master version. We have put our whole lives into developing this game, with the intent of bringing the highest quality of game experience to every single player who buys it. And I personally started developing FFXV from a desire to let everyone play a FINAL FANTASY that was so outstanding and amazing, that it would send other games running in panic.

"I came to think that it might be a mistake just to deliver the master version we have finished to everyone. So I realized that if we were to go ahead and release it, then myself and my team would wind up regretting it."

Hajime Tabata concluded: "The disc that is going on sale on the 29th of November, will contain everything that was scheduled to be on the day one patch, as well as some extra things on top of that."

Played the demos, weren't my thing at all. Rather read a book.

Good news about this? Apart from having a more polished game it also means FFXV must provide a NEO patch on day 1. Or offer such a mode on the disc. The leaked dev documentation for NEO details how from October onwards all PS4 games must provide a patch on day 1 for NEO mode, and then from early next year the NEO mode must be on the disc.

FFXV devs stated that some advanced effects they built for Luminous engine had to be switched off for current consoles. Such as a fully real time global illumination lighting system. With that in mind, the NEO mode of XV should look absolutely glorious.
