one of the weirdest and saddest things happened at newbury racecourse yesterday

Unfortunately 2 racehorses died a few yards from the paddock yesterday so they had to cancel the meeting to investigate what happened.
Latest thoughts are workmen had disturbed the cable after doing some groundworks and Stephen Higgins newbury joint managing director
He said: "The two (horses) who died had steel shoes on and the two who were OK had aluminium plates on, so there's a distinct possibility that the conductivity of the electricity has affected the horses and not humans."

whats more weird is they ran the race after the poor horses were covered with tarps...only one owner removed their horse. Absolutely shocking.

i once saw a stable hand give another stables hands horse a hand in order to give their own horse a hand in winning the race. Get me?

Its so sad. Think everyone in the racing world is shocked by this. Also feel for anyone that was there at the time it happened. We go to the races occasionally and my son loves watching them in the paddock, god forbid any children witnessing something like that.
The only blessing is that with electric shock the horses wouldn't have suffered.

It is shocking but not one of the saddest things, I once did a job at a knackers yard now that was sad,

Lol... Electric shock isn't instant death. Especially since the shock wasn't targeted and the power would most likely have been lower than if they eeeee meant to have been electrocuted.

These two dead horses are a mere drop in the ocean when you look at how many horses die a year from horse racing

oh i agree and im anti steeplechase myself but this was madness and they just carried on...i dont know what made them stop the rest of the races but common decency should have halted proceedings right away. They didnt die in a race but in the paddock..wouldnt you have thought priority would have been to find out why?

I agree but sadly when it comes to horse racing the safety of the horses is a distant second to the money involved

I cant watch the national for that reason and my Dad has never had a bet on it since the beachers incident !
