Hi, I'm looking to get an online backup storage for my files as my hdd is getting quite full these days... Bit lost where to start actually, what are the best options/services out there? Bit weary about free services like dropbox, don't mind paying a little just to make sure my data's safe.. Thanks.

dropbox doesnt have to be free ('premium' options available!), and in my experience its very good.

Lifehacker always swear by dropbox too and in my book that makes it a strong recommendation. :)

How much data will you be intending to upload, as that will have a bearing especially with regards to the cost of the service.

Edit - As mentioned by dt_matthews, Dropbox is one to consider but again links into how much data hosting you need.

Mozy is one to look at. We looked for corporate needs but it wasn't up to corporate standards. I believe it's like £5 a month for unlimited!

Yeah, there you go: http://www.mozypromotion.com/mozy-uk?sub=g5yk3&gclid=CKDywKbtx6kCFVJTfAoda1mVUw

Today best promotion from Mozy.co.uk!
MozyHome is £4.99/Month for unlimited storage. Save up to 26% from 15% off 2-year (+3 free months) and yearly (+1 free month) using following promotional code.

Looking into the company size, the data center locations, encryption etc it's not a 2bit organisation out the back of someones bedroom :)

lol corporate standards! you just made that up lol

It's aimed at home users - basic requirements of cloud backup in a corporate environment were not met or were delivered badly imo. For home users, yeah it looks great!

so is £5 a month the going rate for unlimited storage then? Looking at dropbox, they don't offer unlimited storage...

How much do you need? You know if your hard drive is full you can get another one right? :)

I need a lot.. And yes I've actually brought quite a few hdds in the past, hence I though I'd try something different :D

I have 8tb of storage on my server, could something like that be an option?
suspended#13
Realistically I'd say around 2tb... Is that your personal server?
#14
Yea, just a basic atom based pc I built running windows home server. A nas could also be an option? RAID would ensure stiff is backed up
#15
if you have those volumes i'd say a nas with appropriate raid config and backup to additional media might be a better fit. i used dropbox for the key files that i want to always get to, not all my media (i have a 1tb nas for that...)
