Rap wouldn't appear anywhere on my music genre list. Calling it music might appear like I'm giving it some credit though. Sorry about that!

He makes good soulful music when he wants to, the content can be dodgy but...no one cared when the stones, radio head, beatles etc did that...

Most anything else. It just has to be good music and good lyrics.

He spoils Adam Levine's vocals & Bill Plympton's video here:

I did say "most" and "good music" and "good lyrics", so, yeah, dance, metal and country would definetly be off my list too. That narrows it down a bit. ;)

No Hip-Hop contains good music and lyrics? Ok.

This is probably just a generational thing.

Agreed. The whole Kardashian thing colours a lot of people's estimations of him but musically he's one of the top artists of the last two decades.

Look, it'll end up being easier to list my preferences if we go on like this ;)
You're probably (mostly) correct about your assumption.

Stronger. A very good track.

Honestly though, should it be surprising that HUKD misc doesn't particularly like his music. Hip-Hop probably isn't the flava of music for most users.

I'd like to kick him in the nuts.
But, I can't name any of his music or remember listening to any of it.

So it has to be subjectively good music and subjective good lyrics? Narrows down your musical tastes completely... Your statement doesn't exclude rap for everyone. Just saying.

On topic; I'm not even sure I know a single Kanye West song, make of that what you will.

I wouldn't say that, its just Kanye is Hip-Hop for conservative middle-class bankers.

I think however you feel about his music his personal antics and attention seeking will always overshadow his 'creative genius' or whatever he calls it. I do prefer music from when that was the main focus and not how many front pages you can end up on.
#24
Watch the throne was a really good album imo. Though Jay Z played a big part in making it what it was, more so than Kanye anyway.

And his music? Topic isn't about the man (although I think a lot of the tabloid stuff is overblown), but his art.

His first three albums were good.
Anything after and including 808 and heartbreaks is absolute dross.

That includes My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy which I think rather good, and also happens to be one of the most critically acclaimed albums of the last decade.

As I've said, I don't know if there's a hip-hop album made by someone not called Kendrick that matches it.

But opinions are like, well you know.

Everyone is entitled to their own opinion but the fact that you consider that and stuff by Kendrick as legendary tells me a lot about you as a Hip hop fan.

No need for a reply.

Does it? Liking two of the most critically acclaimed and electric live performers (Kendrick at Wireless and Kanye at Glasto) tells you what about me? Is it something you're able to put into words?

Kanye West's performance at Glastonbury was egotistical and woeful. I definitely wasn't watching "the greatest rock star alive".

Using that as an example tells me you are trolling or haven't listened to that much Hip Hop over the last 20 years.

You seem to be changing the scope. It started off with hip hop artists and now you're going to compare anything I say to a single live performance.

If you are asking me who is a better Hip Hop artist than Kanye West then I am abandoning thread. Kanye West isn't a great. He doesn't even rank in the top 20.

I'm asking what I should have been listening to over the last 15 years (go for 20 if you want but then we're including a lot of late 90s hip-hop and some of that is definitely on par with Kanye's work).

But who since 2000 has released an album as good as MBDTF or To Pimp a Butterfly?

I quite like Kanye's music, 808's & Heartbreak was an absolute classic imo, but he has a few gems in probably every album (except Yeezus)

Not the biggest fan of Yeezus either, but interesting to see your comment about 808s. It seems to be getting a reappraisal in recent years. Might need to give it another listen.
