Optical cable / cinema question

Hey,

I got sky hd installed today and use my cambridge amp to give me 5.1 surround while watching sky movies etc.. However since i have had hd installed everytime i switch to an hd channel i get a kinda intreference sound, its fine switching between normal sd channels. The sky guy said it could be to do with the optical cable, it was a 3quid effort of ebay.

My question is do more expensive cables make a difference, i thought it was like a hdmi cable, digital signal thus no difference in quality? Anyone else had this problem, or can anyone offer a solution?

Rep to all that help

Been looking back on ebay again would one like this solve my problem?

They are optical, interference cannot run into it, the more expensive one wont solve it that way

sounds like bad sound is coming from the sky box if its fine on sd stuff

BOX problem m8, noise is being produced at the source, optical cable carries light NOT a current of any sort. a 99p optical cable will perform the same as a £99 gold plated tip one.
