Only the 3G not the 3GS though.

How true is it...?
#4
I thought this was all rumours up to now, nothing set in stone.
#5
You reckon the price will drop?
#6
Anyone that knows at Orange or T will be under none disclose agreements, so there'll be no info until release.

This rumours has been going round for a long time and nothing ever come of it. I work for Orange in a finance dept and we know nothing about it. The people in our dept are buying their iPhones on O2 pagy or from the Apple store which tell you how much we think Orange is going to be getting it (although we could be wrong. . . )...
[mod]#7
Cannot see the price dropping yet. 3GS has only been out a little while.

Do you mean network exclusivity?
#8
3G possibly.
3G S no chance.

If 02 loses exclusivity to the 3G do you reckon the price will drop?

Not with Apple dictating the price the networks can change, no.

Price might not change but youll probably get a battle between how many mins texts are offered
#12
What about sites like eBay do you reckon the price wil drop?
#13
I have heard that O2 loses its exclusivity rights to the 3G within the next month but it continues to have exclusivity for the 3GS.

I want the 3GS but I want it on Orange so I will just have to wait!

Who knows, If Orange and T get the iPhone people might upgrade to it just because they can and sell it on places like eBay, the increase in volume might lower the prices between sellers to earn them an easy £200

What sorta prices do you reckon orange and t-mobile will charge on contract?
[mod]#16
Then no, I dont think the price of the 3G will drop. Absolutely no chance the 3GS will drop.

Couldnt say to be honest. If Apple do dictate the prices then its probably safer to assume that Orange and Tmobile will have it at £35 a month, with the only differing factors from O2 been an increase in mins and texts o2 currently do 600 mins 500 texts unlimited net, Orange and T could offer 600 Unlimited texts etc stuff like that.

On the other hand though i could be totally wrong, its all just rumours flying about at the moment so what ive said there is just my opinion.

I spoke to Orange today, regarding a different issue, and the gentleman said to me that it is likely that Orange/ T-mobile will be getting the iphone 3G (Not 3GS ). He also stated they are having a very important meeting tomorrow, in which he thinks that they will declare they will be getting hold of the iPhone.

I hope thats bloody accurate!

Hang on, isnt it o2 which are losing the exclusivity? Surely Apple are gaining and o2 are losing out?

Yep
#22
Its Official !!

iPhone 3GS coming to Orange this xmas, no pricing yet.

Linky

By O2's response it doesnt seem like their losing the iPhone totally just exclusivity. Linky

I for one hope this encourages competition between the 2 operators and and maybe this will bring Oranges dated data tarrifs into the 21st century ;)

Probably speaking to some minimum wage kid who was joking. A call centre worker would not know about all the big major mettings....

I'm in a business contract with Orange. Got a long time remaining. Would it be possible to change phones or purchase a iPhone from them? I've got a HTC Touch Pro 2 which is the worst phone ever. I prefer my old Seimens S25 the the hunk of junk I have to use.
#26
hopefully it'll spell the end of the 24 month contracts - I'm a bit nervous about contracting for two years on an apple product that's only gauranteed for 12 months...

The warrenty is valid for the life of the contract. (At least it is with O2.)

According to O2 customer services its valid for the contract lifespan. Thats just as well 'cos I fully expect you'll need to return it at some point!

Wow. Didnt realise this! I was told in the Apple store it is only with Apples 12 month warranty. I had some dodgy headphones and they made me prove they were 12 months or less old.

Good to know.

They had no hesitation whatsoever in doing it.

A friend of mine had a dodgy USB cable on her 3 year old iPod. They also changed it over free of charge!

Not quite right guv :p

All accessories and batteries are covered for the life of your warranty WITH apple (year or two depending on applecare or not)
I've had my 3G S USB cable replaced 3 times and my headphones twice. :p

Hoping to get the iPhone on orange now :-D and not 02's ripoff pricing....

Yer I dont think you will see a price drop.

Just get it on o2 if you want one!

will be the same pricing - apple set it - maybe different bundles, but same pricing.

That's like saying 'Tesco will now supply the apple macbook'
So they'll knock off £50

I dont think o2 are that bad?

You get quite alot for £35 / 45 I reckon.
#38
From what the rumours have been saying for months, it's likely to only happen with the previous installment of the 3G and not the 3GS.

I'm actually surprised that O2 has kept exclusive rights on such a sought after phone for so long but with T-mobile and Orange joining forces, it'll probably mean they're offering Apple a huge chunk of change.

What I can see happening is they'll offer T-mobile a slightly different exclusive model with some pros and cons to suit a slightly different market.
#39
hoping for a nice upgrade price for this on Orange as contract is expiring in Jan. On a nice package for £20 a month including unlimited data so don't really want to leave.
#40
this will trigger a price war , the pricing is not set by apple at all

shorter contracts and cheaper initial handset costs are inevitable also they have the 3gs

2 years exclusivity 02 had and now they gonna get the palm pre.....they reckon a million extra customers because of the iphone allegedly
