Orange Number Porting/Migrating

So next month my contract ends and the phone I want to upgrade to isn't available to even buy so I've been having a look around for other alternatives.

Found the phone I want through Carphone Warehouse and the plan is more or less the same as what I'm on. When I ring to end my current contract, can I ask to have my number migrated?

I've heard that numbers can't be ported from contract to contract - which dosen't seem right.

I really need to keep my current number y'see.

Any help would be nice.

Read the FAQ on their website, it should say which companies you can port from/to. I know dialaphone and e2save have it listed on theirs for sure so go there if carphone warehouse doesn't have.

I've just had a look at dialaphone, seems pretty straight forward although I can't cancel this contract until I my number is ported, so does that mean I'd be better off getting the new contract before 28th Sept (which is when my current contract ends)

You ask for your current provider for a PAK code before the 28th Sept. You just give this code to your new provider and they'll do the rest. The code works for 30 days so during that time you can find a new contract.
