my phone which on an 18 month contract (only nearly 10 months old) has broken! just rang orange and they said they'll only fix it if I pay for it to be fixed!!! is this right?! for the last 10 months with them I have thought the service was terrible, this tops it off!!

whats wrong with it and how did it happen?
#3
happened by itself, just keeps turning itself on and off. turns on to the welcome screen then turns straight off again then repeats over and over

This happened to me with 3 network. My screen cracked and it wasnt insured.

Im sure that its somehow not covered by the manufacturers and is handled by the network. I was lucky as 3 didnt turn up the first time so managed to blag the repairs for fee :)

The phone must have a 12 month warranty so what are they advising you about?
and what make is the phone?

Well assuming its not water damaged, and the phone was bought from orange, then they have to repair it. Ring back and speak to a supervisor.
Have a quick read up on the sales of goods act before you call so you have some idea what you are talking aboput so you can argue better.

thats a samsung g600, he said it only has a 6 month warranty with it?! and that if they were to fix it I would have to pay? it isn't water damaged at all, it done this a couple of times before but if i disconnected the battery it sorted itself out but hasn't worked this time.

what kind of deal did you buy? i have never seen 6 months warranty unless a recon and then not on a contract:?
#9
Try your luck and go into an Orange shop and explain what is wrong. Take your documents if you have them, but don't tell them that you have contacted customer services on the phone.
#10
not recon. brand new 18 month contract £45 a bloomin month! and they are no help!!
#11
which tariff? and who did you call?
this is just plain silly tbh-it has to have a warrant and they have to repair it for you?

Could you get Dad or bf to call. Men dont get fobbed off the way us women do. I proved it once when me n hubby phoned 3 branches of the same company everytime i was quoted more than double for the same exhaust for our XR2 ( yeah im talking a zillion years ago ) But i was bored and wanted to prove a point

48 hour return.

I was manager of a mobile store and we did these sort of repairs for some makes of handset-they were faster turnaround than the direct repair we used internally!

dont forget to remove sim card and if your numbers etc on phone get them off if possible as it will probably lose all data.

but if it is another fault she will have spent on a battery then still have to send..chances are they will repair it anyway if it is returned to service:thumbsup:

I've got a problem with my Samsung - used their website to report the fault, & a pre-paid jiffy bag is on the way for me to return the phone, with a promise of a fast turn-round.

Thumbs up to Samsung - I'd prefer to have a phone that doesn't go wrong, but they offer a great service for if/when it does:thumbsup:

Take it to a carphone warehouse. They will repair it for free, regardless of where you bought it.

they still have to send it off for repair whichever way you look at it-and im pretty sure carphone will take longer:roll:
On occasion it took 2-3 weeks with a repair aswe used intec-if we used a postal service(some manufacturers allowed this) it was 2-3 days:thumbsup:

unless you have bought from orange directly (online or in store), they have no obligation to honour the manufacturer warranty, although, from the above it seems you did buy it from them?
if you didnt buy from orange direct, then the retailer you bought it from would provide a warranty, or tell you to contact the manufacturer direct.
#26
thanks everyone, been playing with it and discovered it'll stay on and work fine if I take the memory card out! any ideas to why anyone? x
#27
Orange suck for another reason for me, anyone remember the 'Play Balloonacy' internet balloon race they did a few months ago? - Well I was one of the daily winners of that and won a prize, however that 'prize' has never materialised and despite me contacting them several times they have ignored me ever since.
#28
Usual response by all mobile repairers is:-

Oh it's water damaged or you must have dropped it. = No repair, one angry customer.

I've had my Samsung G600 for 11 months and it's just started to do strange things too!! The screen locked after I sent a text and it would not do anything - not even switch off. I had to take the battery out and put it back in before it would work again. Wouldn't care so much but I had to take out an 18 month contract with them so it's still got 6 months to go. Hope it holds out!!
