You'll probably pay fees on your debit card depending on which bank you use. Try to use one which doesn't charge if you can, will save you 2.5%.

Cheers for the heads up - fee's are only charged on credit cards, not debit

Cool, don't think most people realise they could charge, I certainly didn't!

Don't bother with Bajan (pronounced 'Bay-Gen') Dollars - take US Dollars, they're accepted everywhere. Just be aware though that the rate for Bajan Dollars & US Dollars are different, so if you get a quote for something always ask whether they're talking Bajan or US Dollars.

Also, don't be afraid to use the yellow buses, even if the hotel advises against it. They are SO much fun & you get to sit with the 'real' Bajans. There's no official bus stops for these so just wait by the road & stick your hand out. If the driver points into the distance then it means that the police are watching & he'll pick you up either at a designated bus stop or around the corner out of sight of the police. Oh, & if the bus stops at a petrol station & everyone gets off don't panic! No-one is allowed on the bus when they're filling up so it doesn't mean that the journey's over, just hang around with the others & then get back on.

If you use the grey Government registered bus then make sure you have the correct money as they don't give change.

If you use a taxi make sure you sort out the price BEFORE you get in, and check if the quote is for Bajan or US.

The Bajans are the most friendly people that I have met whilst on holiday around the world, so don't be afraid to stop & chat with them:thumbsup:

Hi CIS,

Been there 3 times previously, so know the score thanks - already got some US dollars, just need some Barbados dollars as well - getting married over there in a few weeks :)

Also normally hire a mini moke - try keeping up with the yellow bus in that lol

It's about half an half.

Nationwide don't charge when using the card abroad, about half of them charge/don't charge when transferring money before you travel.

Right, I thought you meant using your Debit Card in an ATM abroad.;-)

Nationwide is certainly the best option for getting currency at ATM's overseas, excellent rate, no charges.

Also thinking about just taking most of it in English - I'm sure the banks over there can beat any rate over here......

Just make sure you have a good time!

We actually won an all-inclusive holiday in a 5* hotel out there (inluding flights) so we were able to sit back & relax as never before!
