Oh no what a pain! They're so expensive as well, when is the holiday? Will you have time to get the passports sorted out if you go ahead with your plans?
#2
Thats a real pain, how much are they now about £50 each?

£66 for a adult replacement. You could always do a passport check at your local post office, for a quicker turn around. But it is £7 a passport. Although got to say (coz i do the checks!) it is a good service!

It varies... from 66 quid for adult renewal (3 weeks service) to 108 quid same day service.

Yup, to pay up front seems like a real stinger, but don't forget they will last for the next 10 years so it's not an expense you will have to meet every year. I would also endorse the service that Lulu'sMammy mentioned - we used it 2 weeks ago (sent the application off on Saturday, paid to have the counter clerk check the docs. and it came back via courier the following Saturday) Word of advise though - use black ink and DO NOT allow ANY of your letters to go outside the boxes:x :x
Bummer of the whole episode is we have had to cancel the trip abroad, as old man has been put on emergency list for eye op. :-( :-(

Passport fees are getting really expensive. Paying out for 6 adult ones in one go is a bit steep!

Last year I renewed mine, didn't use the post office check service but still got it back within 2 weeks.

That's a shame you had to cancel your trip Jelli, hope everything goes well with the op and you can get away later in the year

Fortunately it was a 'only' trip to see old freinds overseas, and we found out about the op. about 2 days before we booked the crossing

you had me worried - i thought this was the deal thread!
#13
Better renewing it now before all this biometric passports and ID cards come in (if they do).
Can bet thats gonna cost a bomb.
#14
Ok renew passports before april as they are bringing in this law that says anybody claiming for first passport or renewing has to go for a face to face interview due to passports being used for fraud, got to prove its all above board.
#15
yes j.dance that is true :)

And Kommunist you need an appointment (which are like gold dust!) to get a same day service, you cannot just turn up at the passport office. A rip off if you ask me, unless of course it cant be helped!

Yeah, I know. I did it last summer when I realised that all our passports were out of date. I gave a call to Peterborough office and lady said: "sure, come tomorrow and we'll make you new passports while you wait" :)
But the price... ouch!

Bureaucracy is unavoidable thing, there is nothing you can do about it. :x

I live in Peterborough and whenever i'm up that end of town there are always people queueing to get their passports. Especially in the summer.
#21
Maybe I was just lucky then? :) As when I arrived there were virtually no people.
[mod]#22
Excellent. Can't be bad. One day when i was up there last summer they were queued out the building and down to the Chicago Rock Cafe round the corner.

Poor sods, it's not the most scenic of places to stand for a few hours. All you've got to look at is the town market, the multi-storey car park and the top of the cathedral whilst you wait.
