Breaking news: Haiti earthquake

A major earthquake has struck Haiti just ten miles from the capital city of Port-Au-Prince. Local officials are reporting a catastrophe of major proportions.

Oxfam has long experience in Haiti, and we're rushing in teams from around the region to respond where our assistance is most needed. Our response will include providing clean water, shelter and sanitation.

You pair of miseries

If it was in the Deals section it might make people actually notice it and think to themselves " If i can afford to buy things that i see on this site maybe i can afford to donate to this cause".

HUKD aren't very charitable!

Little Suzie down the road needs a life saving operation, but it’s only available in the US. Her parents are trying to raise the necessary funds for this. Should I post it in the deals section?

This isn't for 1 person, this is a lot of people that need help, its just to make people think of buying something useful - Donating to a cause. If you dont like then thats fine but there's no need to make negative comments.

God forbid if something happened to the UK - A terrible disaster - I wouldn't be suprised if other countries didnt help us! Im sure we are the most selfish nation.

Isnt oxfam one of the worst ways of giving? I did read recently that only 20% of money raised in their shops actually gets to the ones suffering hardship. The rest goes on admin / bills / salaries.

very good website here for determining the best charities & their profiles

Oh I see as little Suzie is only one person, in your opinion she is not deserving of our charity? You are “sure we are the most selfish nation” Then you are an idiot :p

I am not promoting Oxfam or any charity. Just think it was a good post - A way of making people think and not ignore. But guess most people just want it moved to Misc so they dont have to see it. Shame. I hope it made some people stop and think and donate however they want via whichever charity.

tbh this might sound callous but where was the appeal for cockermouth? Etc too much money floods out of this country as it is would rather donate to local charities

Its not supposed to become an argument. I like you also support my local chairites. But its just a nice thing the OP was doing by posting this, just to make people aware. It was not intended to cause arguments.

Everyone has their own opinions on which chairties they prefer.

As could you being closer than i am may have to start an appeal to buy maps. As i say better helping local charity as has been pointed out a minor percentage from oxfam gets through. But nice to see part time do gooders come out of the woodwork

Who are you to tell me who i should and shouldn't donate to. Yes i live in Lancashire - You live in Yorkshire. Cumbria is close to us both!

I did donate - My family made up boxes with food and gifts and sent it and i donated money. (Not that its any of your business really)

But yes i donate to local charities - And i like to donate to causes around the world. I was just agreeing that the OP was trying to do a good thing and raise awareness. I dont see why people have to be so negative and rude.

I do travel worldwide and i do see how much money is pumped into these countries which you might as well burn on a fire as its the same old same old every year............
Perhaps if all the money that went abroad went back into the UK this could pay for FREE heating for all our Pensioners in our winter months........Or even maybe Free Electric...........just a couple of examples im sure there are many more.........................

We're not talking about the things you see on those adverts about fresh water and medical aid etc... Yes thats the same thing every year , we are talking about a disaster that has just happened - That doesnt happen every year, Its a terrible thing and we should stop and think and do what we can to help even if its just a £1

If something happened to the UK - Say a freak massive tsunami tidal wave hurricane and all our houses were wiped out and our families were trapped and we were dying and needed help do you think other countrys would sit there and think "ooh help ourselves before helping others, its the same old same every year, they didnt help us" No wonder this world is like it is - Everyone is so selfish. If we all took time to stop and help others not just ourselves maybe the world would be a better place (starting to sound like a Michael Jackson song now so i'll stop) Its just such a shame that people have those views. Never mind - At least i know i've done my bit.

only example here is the example you have made of yourself:whistling:

so because people in this country have not chosen to save for a rainy day when they might need cash and spent it enjoying themselves or whatever, charities and people around the world who have nothing and no resources or help whatsoever should miss out

get a grip and get out of england (traveling is good):whistling:
