PAC Codes and 30 days notice

When you request your PAC code from your mobile provider, in my case 3 - Does this serve as your 30 day notice period. ie from the day you request the code that becomes the start of the notice period, if you use it then fine if not you re-request it....

Possibly have an issue with 3 @ the moment regarding this....

It does...but if code not used within 30 days, contract will continue. Whats the issue your having?

Not necessarily. Check the T&C, as you may have to email/speak to someone and specifically say that you want to start your notice period.

Just getting a PAC doesn't mean you will use it.

In my experience, requesting PAC does not automatically commence your notice period. All you need to do is contact 3 customer services on your phone and tell them you are leaving. Remember if you have a contract with them you must have come to the end of the agreed contract period. If you haven't already purchased a phone from another provider, you may well be able to negotiate a good deal when advising them that you wish to leave (often better if you are able to keep same phone no. tho).

before christmas i called 3 requesting the PAC. they said they'd text it to me. i recieved several texts but never checked any. now when i came to xfer networks the texts they sent were just marketing texts. my fault for not checking them so i re-requested the PAC. this time they sent me it.

i xfered networks & got a bill from 3 saying i owed the £0. a month later i get a bill from them saying I owe them a months line rental.

last time i did this with 3 i could have sworn that the PAC request was also the serving of the notice period.

possibly my own fault, but if Id have got the first PAC code then i wouldnt have got the 2nd bill cos I deffo waited 30 days before trying to xfer.....

I cancelled my o2 a few months ago by PAC then porting number to payg which acted as notice and end of contract to cpw/o2

A pac only lasts 30 days any way, so one generated before Christmas would have expired in Jan some time.

Get a pac and using it acts as giving notice, but if you don't use it nothing happens..

They've done nothing wrong. You asked for PAC, regardless of whether you checked them or not you didnt look and didnt use them. So when the 30days had passed from when you requested it, they will have carried on the contract. Also the last bit, about waiting 30 days before transferring, isnt right as you're supposed to transfer within 30 days.

ok may i may not be being exact here. my point i feel has been answered that the PAC code acts as my notice.

the problem was that i never originally got the PAC code so when i came to xfer (within the 30 days) i had to re-request which i why i suspect I had a bill for the the months line rental, because i xfered a day later and thus not giving a full 30 days.....

if id have used the original PAC code (one that i never recieved) then i may have only been liable for a few days line rental charge.....

Suppose yeah...so in that element then you may have an issue as they didnt send PAC code originally.

yeh thats where my problem lies. i need to dig out the original dates, but im sure im gonna have x amounts of hassle when trying to explain this to the lovely 3 call centre.....

And they will say that getting your PAC does not constitue you giving notice.
I'd forget that tactic and just call them asap.

What OP is saying is that should they have received the PAC code originally then when they went to use it within 30 days, that they didnt have one because 3 hadn't sent it originally. So they had to re-phone and get the PAC which put it back another 30 days hence getting another bill.

Best bet is to speak to Otelo (0330 440 1614). They'll give a ref. number and an address/phone number for Exec office in Glasgow. But get dates first as cant be looked at until 8 weeks have passed from when you first complained.
