Can someone explain to me, why they are called a pair of pants, and not just a pant, being singular??
And a pair of trousers, a pair of knickers, a pair of shorts??
It cant be because of the fact they have two holes for your legs, as it would be a pair of shirts for the arms???

Originally a "pant" referred to just one of the legs. In medieval times, pants were worn as two separate leggings
