    Spoke to JL.

    1. Phoned up, the first man I spoke to told me they were definitely getting more stock in, which was why the product pages went live again. He also said an internal memo had been sent out to JL staff last week saying when / if they got more stock of HP Touchpad's, they would only be sold online.

    2. I didn't believe ^, so I phoned back immediately after and spoke to someone else. They checked the system... no stock in warehouses or stores, no listed delivery date or anything. She couldn't help, but could not offer any confirmation they had received or were awaiting stock.

    3. Phoned back again, and somehow managed to bag my way into speaking to someone from the JL web team. They said they had been informed more stock was en route and so were told to put pages back online.

    4. Phoned back for a fourth time, and managed to track down a supervisor / manager after 20 minutes of the same answers from the customer service agent. She (the supervisor) told me that they have received notice from HP that they were producing a final batch of 2 million touchpads, and that "with John Lewis being a preferred HP retailer, they had been told they could expect to receive a batch of this stock", when and how was not clear. I repeatedly pointed out to her that somebody had to have physically gone onto their website and added those new online touchpad pages. I wanted to know on what basis did whoever add those pages do so. She has promised me she will phone people more senior and enquire for me, getting back to me either tonight or tomorrow.

According to the manager, their system is quite simple. If a product is in stock, the product pages are live and list in stock. Should the product then go out of stock, but awaiting more stock in, the product pages remain live. Should the product go out of stock and they are certain no more stock is coming in (a discontinued product effectively), then the product pages are taken offline and removed. I obviously then begged the question of why the pages were removed last week, only to be made live again today but they have no confirmed delivery date. Then I just went round in circles (even with the supervisor) about how they can only aid customers with the information listed in their main frame system.... blah blah blah.

    So to sum up:

    1. The supervisor is getting back to me on why the pages were made live again.
    2. In general John Lewis website terms, the fact that the pages are live but OOS do imply stock is incoming.
    3. As always I am being led one way, and then turned in another - customer service staff really do not have a clue. I've already complained to JL about this. I really did expect more from them, the store who prides themselves in putting the customer first.

Hope this is of some help

    22 July 2065 : BREAKING NEWS

Following last month's Government decision to outlaw all free and 'price promotion' deals, UK website, HotUKDeals has announced it is to close. The site has had no deals posted to it in four weeks and the only remaining active thread, PALM PRE3 & HP TOUCHPAD STOCK LEVELS - OFFICIAL THREAD, was started in 2011. Thread contributor, RedSoxx, said "I am going to give it til my 103rd birthday next week and if I've not found a TouchPad again, HP can go to hell".

Have spent the night in my cat basket monitoring for any changes or activity regarding the Touchpad stock and just done my final check of the night of the following websites and will put the details below. Have mainly checked all the "biggies" but sadly no new info reagrding stocks of TP & have not checked on the Pre 3....mentioning which I know we are supposed to be concentrating on Touchpads or Pre 3's but thought the info about Accessories might be of some help to someone after so many peeps managed to get TP from CPW yesterday....hope those of you who got them are getting a lot of enjoyment out of them....

I also want to say I take no legal responsibility for the following info being accurate or any excitement, stress, tension or disappointment it may cause....this was the info that was on the sites when I started going through them manually at 5am. I will update it as and when I can as it should be pointed out that the HP site was playing up when I was trying to check.

Right away back to my basket for a catnap...

We dot in and out and try to be helpful when we can. But you won't see us back in here full time.
The main reason we moved was because we had gone so off topic, and because none of us had ever experienced such vitriolic small minded pettiness from members who don't always stay rigidly on topic either. At the end of the day the night shift was to watch for things like Argos updating at 3am etc...which was hopefully to be for the benefit of all. We are still searching TP's actively but with a touch of respect and humour.

As of 11.30 this morning, I am pleased to announce Parcelforce delivered my touchpad at long last.

I just wanted to thank everyone on here who helped me with this. It's been over 4 weeks, and the end is finally here, so thank you The likes of DLC (and too many others to name) are what makes this site so good. We are, underneath all the trolls and everything else.... a true community, and thats what its all about Thank you.

And more importantly, even bigger kudos to Azza87, for without him I wouldn't be where I am today He went out of his way to get me one from Amazon that night, and for that I am eternally grateful.

For anyone still looking, don't give up. It may seem at times like all hope is lost, but the best deals are usually the ones that spring up at the most unexpected, random moments. Amazon, John Lewis, PCWB etc etc were all totally unexpected. I'm sure there will be a few more

    Sent from my HP Touchpad

Me: Hello just wondering what's happening with my backorder for the hp Touchpad?

Weareelectrical: Oh, Sir very sorry. The order has been delayed.

    Me: Yes, but 'til when?

Weareelectrical: I'm sorry, I don't have that information to hand.

Me: I'd like to cancel and request a refund please.

Weareelectrical: Sir, you cannot cancel. The Touchpads are on a boat.

    Me: A BOAT!!

    Weareelectrical: Yes Sir!

Me: And you don't know when this boat is docking?

Weareelectrical: No Sir! However, we might be able to arrange for a expedited delivery if you deposit the exact same sum of monies into our account again.

Me: And what about my original payment?

Weareelectrical: We'll two are better then one Sir!

    Me: I don't want two!

Weareelectrical: Well we'll just have to see what happens with the boat.

Me: Listen mate, you're starting to annoy me, when am I gonna get my Touchpad?

Weareelectrical: Sir, I will be honest with you, the boat has been intercepted by pirates and now they're holding them to ransom. We are asking all our customers to make another payment to help fund the ransom demand.

    Me: Are you f****** serious?

Weareelectrical: Oh Sir most definitely. So what do you think?

Me: Give me my money back?

Weareelectrical: I'm sorry the other caller has disconnected

Me: That's still you isn't it?

    Weareelectrical: Yes Sir.

Me: Right, I'm going to trading standards.

Weareelectrical: I don't think trading standards has any jurisdiction in Lagos Sir...

    Me: Oh ffs!

    Weareelectrical: Hangs up

Can we PLEASE stop treating newcomers as unwelcome guests. They have the same rights as everybody else. They can browse the forums and take up offers the same as everybody else.

If they *choose* to submit their own offers then all the better. As people contribute more they will find that their vote counts for more points and they get new icons under their avatar. They will also hopefully find that they get on better with other contributors.

There are benefits to contributing, but no loss of access for those choosing to remain quiet or anonymous. Contributing is NOT compulsory. It never has been.

Among the long timers there are plenty of helpful people, but just as many trolls. There are great contributors who regularly post deals, but plenty of others who take far more than they have ever tried to contribute. The newcomers are no different. Some will be good for the community and some not. The more welcome they feel, the more likely they are to stay and contribute.

This thread has attracted a lot of attention. It has gone far and wide. We should use that to our advantage and welcome new people in. If the new members stay active that will mean more posted bargains, so we all benefit. If we make them unwelcome and turn people away because they've not contributed then we'll never grow.

If you don't like somebody then ignore them. That's everybody's prerogative. But please stop picking on the newcomers because that only benefits the trolls.

    So, update....
Just had a lovely fellow named George call me from HP's Nigerian depot.
After confirming with him my order and bank details, he said he would cut out the middle man, and fulfil my order from Amazon.
My 32gb tablet has now been dispatched and should be with me by the weekend.

    I'd call that a result.

My first post on this thread after following it since monday afternoon. I'll keep it short but after very little sleep and very little done at work, 2 cancelled orders later from amazon & staples, I had finally given up hope of a touchpad this afternoon. I saw a post from a user (you know who you are!) this afternoon offering a reservation that he was giving away after having a cpw order fulfilled. What a gent and a legend! My missus amazingly picked up the reservation tonight at 7pm (very surprised it was still there) and I am now a happy touchpad owner. It's really restored my faith in the dignity and consideration of some of hukd's members after some of the awful posts, spamming and abuse I've tried to keep up with for the last 2 1/2 days, that some people still have decent morals, despite most of us getting caught in the frenzy of this amazing deal. Hope the rest of you still searching (not for profit) get fixed up soon.
