Panasonic Viera Plasma TV Help!

Hello all,

Please can someone help me? I am interested in getting a 50in Panasonic Viera Plasma, and have done some research but the model numbers are confusing me.

I understand what the NeoPDP is and I feel that for an extra £300-400 it is not justified as well as the thought that in a couple of years if 3D TVs really kickoff then i could upgrade to one of them.

I have found the PANASONIC Viera TX-P50U10B (£629.99) and TX-P50X20B (£655.00) at Dixons.

Am I correct in assuming that the 20 in the model number indicates the newer model in comparison to the 10 being last years?

What are the main differences between the 2?

Thanks in advance for any help

George

first off mate, if your gunna get a panasonic viea yous hould get eothe the v10 ( which i have and its the best tv on the market ) or wait a month and get the v20, and yes the 20 is the next step up, i have vieras all my hd life and the v10 is so far ahead of anything, its just pure no motion blur perfection

Forgot to mention I am kinda on a budget. What sort of prices are these 2 models going to cost that you mentioned?

The U panel is 1080p (in some circles aka "Full HD"), whereas the X will only be 720p (still HD, but not as high resolution) from memory. In addition to the 10 and 20 series there was an interim 15 model as well (certainly on the G panels which are the next step down from V's), it may be worthwhile trying to find one of those as they will be being replaced by 20's by the sounds of things...

...I have a 46G10 and it produces some stunning images

EDIT: Just done some looking, according to the website both panels are 1080p, although the X panel only has a resolution of 1024x768 pixels compared to the U's resolution of 1920x1080...so not sure how that works :S It might be worthwhile asking on www.avforums.com as the guys there certainly know their stuff...

Thank you for your help guys, but like I said am on a budget and wouldn't really want to spend more than £650-700. I found this link on this site and was wondering what you lot think?

1080p and 400Hz for £629 from Dixons. With possibility of 4% off through a code.

Is this not the better (TX-P50U10B) than the X20 as this has 400Hz whereas the X0 has 100?
For £630 is it worth it? http://www.dixons.co.uk/gbuk/panasonic-viera-tx-p50u10b-50-full-hd-plasma-tv-04802675-pdt.html

Thanks for all the help guys

If you are into picture and not too fussy about having HD freeview and freesat , yes TX-P50U10B is better, picture wise (400hz). But its an old version being U10 and not much companies sell it anymore. So dixons doing it for £629 is not bad.......:)

Thanks for this, one more dumb question, if I plan to get SkyHD then the Freesat will be pointless?

If you are happy to pay SKYHD ....how much is it per month??.... £28?? .......but if you stop paying. You will be only be left with freesat HD only. No FreeviewHD.......

I seem to have convinced myself that Panasonic plasmas are by far the best. But a few people have told me this is not the case and others have caught up. Does anyone have any other 50in TVs for no more than £700.

Is this Samsung good? http://www.hotukdeals.com/item/679387/samsung-ps50c550-50-inch-full-hd-pl

I'd get a Panny over a Samsung any day generally, I've seen many problems with Samsungs. And if price and spec are about the same on paper I'd go with the Panny.
