Nope have experienced with my dad the ineptness of these places. Would like to run one myself eventually. Maintain our older generations dignity.

I'm recording it, as my grandfather is currently in hospital and we're considering a care home. Will make interesting viewing I'm sure.

I think it will only get worse though, without stereotyping, there is a severe lack of respect in the lower generations these days (I'm a teacher)

I take my hat off to those parents who value and nurture respectful, caring attitudes in our children-you make my job easier!!!

Oh right, my apologies then. Still, horrendous services anyway.

I'm watching channel 4, how that evil man could kill his family over HIS debts infuriates me.
Such a waste of a young life in his daughter and an innocent life in his wife.

I hope he rots.

I do find programmes like this a little disconcerting-is it really our business to see the ashes and rubble? to hear the forensic reports? I think they're interesting but uncomfortable viewing.

complained, they were investigated but nothing done :x

after loads of searching found a great place, he goes on day trips, always clean, en-suite :) bit too well fed as he got tubby

This is mainly concerned with domicilary care - where carers employed by private care agencies visit clients in their own homes to care for them as opposed to the client living in a care home.

The revelations in this programme don't surprise me in the least. i used to work for company which supplied equipment to these care agencies & I heard some terrible stories. Having said that, it's unfair to tar all of them with the same brush.

The worst thing the government did was to de-regulate this industry in the 90's - since then almost anyone can set up one of these agencies.

Sadly, this program is the tip of a very large iceberg.

i can imagine some are shocking luckily the 1 mi gf works for treats them pretty well.....they mainly employ australian nurses on whv coz its so hard toget registered for hospital nursing work here these days ...... so most staff are over qualified not like this

I do try to avoid these programs if possible.

They are... educational in a way, and fascinating in another, but totally depressing too.

That discomfort you feel, is revulsion I think tempered by the unbelievability of it all.

Yes.

It's all down to money. The carers can be poorly trained, or the care agencies aren't paid enough for the carers to spend enoiugh time with the client. There's a multitude of reasons why these problems exist & it's a terrible shame that it happens in a country like this.

very true...because it's so far away from anything i would EVER do, there is an aspect of unbelievability about it. There is a lot of forensic study also which does interest me.

I just have to distance myself from considering the life Kirsty might have led.

As for the panorama programme (sorry for going off topic!) it will make me incredibly angry, I can tell. How dare people show such disrespect for the elderly.

You just have to believe that what goes around, comes around don't you.

Yes... I understand it as... human beings are human beings and can show good behaviour traits and bad behaviour traits depending on the choices they make, the things they are dealing with, their interests, their understandings and what pressures they are under.

If someone is showing a poor work ethic or a bad character in some way it is because,
a) they think it is right
b) they know it is wrong but think they can get away with it
c) they know it is wrong but have justified it to themselves in some way
d) they know it is wrong, but don't give a monkeys
e) it is beyond their control
