parking fine :(

I got a £60£30 parking fine for being 20 mins late back to my car. I know it's my fault for being late but £60 for 20 mins seems a little extreme!

We were swimming with our litte un and forgot about the parking.

I guess there is not much point appealing on the grounds of the charge being too high is there? I'm happy to pay a penalty but £3 a minite seems a little extortionate

If I pay within 14 days it's £30 but by the time I've appealed would I have to pay £60 (the charge for over 14 days?)

bah - anyway I'm just moaning.
Thanks for listening,
worto.

No, when you put in an appeal they hold it at £30 until a decision is reached.
I don't really see that you have a case though.
If you could think of something that would have meant you were unable to get back to your car in time maybe you would stand a chance but it would have to be a good reason.

They said your parking was fine, take the compliment... :p

Sorry you got hit by a fine. I don't think you have any grounds to appeal though, as you knew what the penalties were when you parked there (or at least should have done).

Try not to let it get to you. Just think of the time you got to spend with your little un. I'm guessing that was worth far more than £30.

good to know they hold it at £30 but I don't think I have much of a case either.

The parking machine was out of order so I had to go to one in the next door car park but that wouldn't stop me getting back to me car quick enough. I just object to the ammoung they are asking for really. It's £1.40 for an hour but £30 or £60 for beign 20 mins late!

lol thanks for that bjmcghee!

edit - nightswimmer - yeah I guess so but £35 is an expensive hour swimming! - I was in a company car maybe I should just ignore it and see how long it takes them to find me - probably end up paying £60 then though :-o

Oh, ya big soppy sod, you'd bring a tear to a glass eye! :-D

I guess it has to be a fair whack otherwise everyone would be leaving their car anywhere and we'd hit gridlock in cities and towns!
Some car parks (NCP) charge almost that for a few hours parking anyway!!

Now non blue badge holders parking in a disabled bay....that's another story!! Grrrr.

lol - yeah I agree with high (ish) charges for people who just abandon thier car all over the place, thats just silly.

If I needed to do that though I'd just buy a merc and put my hazard lights on :-p

if u think thats high u should see the charges for clamping
£325 i paid for the priviledge of 10 mins mmmmmmmm
then the other day £120 for a bit longer - 1 hour lol

Just think, you could have parked for an extra couple of hours and still only paid £30! ;-)

I got a ticket last week for parkin in reserve parkin at my college.

Im gonna appeal it, try and blag it, its £60 goes upto £100. I was only there for half hour, im gonna say i had to run in and reach my deadline for coursework or something. *******s.

lol - thats more like it - less sopppy stuff & more people suffering - now I'm starting to feel a bit better :)

I parked my car for 2 hours in a 3 hour stay car park. Drove off and went home for an hour or so. I realised I'd forgot something from town. Parked in the same place for a whole 10 mins and got fined.

I was then told to look at some tiny writing on a remote sign that said 'No return for 2 hours'

I tried to appeal. As they'd wrote the ticket incorrectly:
1) My car is not made by 'Toyata'
2) This 'Toyata' company (nor any company) don't make a car called the 'Yadley'
3) My offence was written as parked for over 3 hours, which was not the case.

The list goes on... I think it would have been easier to list what he'd written right on the ticket.

Months passed and they refused the appeal. I was too tired to argue and just paid it.

I hate Euro car parks now. I think it's easier to park in the middle of the road. You'd only get a £30 fine then.

Fair enough. You're an idiot. You screwed up. Now pay the fine and suffer!

Better? ;-)

Still, it only takes 10 seconds to put the cash into the meter and stick the ticket on your car.

hahaha thats more like it nightswimmer!

FreeDUMB - thats a bit harsh innit! Not really all the spelling mistakes & stuff just that you had paid for that time really yet you get charged just because you left & came back again still within the time!

I'd have had a FIT!! - then probably calmed down, paid & moaned about it on here :) Bl00dy smallprint!

Wow - eerie!
I got a letter yesterday saying I owe £60 for non payment of parking fine from
7 January. I was not issued with a ticket (I think I was parked outside chippy for 5 mins)
so how was I supposed to pay initially? So anyone got any ideas on this?
#17
I guess I'd apeal and offer to pay the innitial £30 instead? they should have stuck a large yellow envelope onto your windscreen, mine was under my wipers, can't imagine it would have blown away to be fair.

At least thats what thye do in East Staffs.

Beware that it is not from one of those Parking Enforcement Companies - they usually try to make their letters look and sound like official council ones.

I remember hearing Jeremy Clarkson suggesting that the amount it costs to park in London, he found it cheaper to park in restricted areas and pay the fines.
#20
Serves you right, other people need to park also and you being a bad time keeper is your own fault
#21
I'm not (in general) a bad time keeper & I know it's my fault I said so in my first post

I know it's my fault for being late but £60 for 20 mins seems a little extreme!

Anyway all paid up now & in a much better mood now I'm back from work too :)

Well if you knew the rules and you knew the punishment, then whats the problem.

Different if you had no idea and they suddenly sprung it on you
#23
argh - I didn't know the punishment & the problem is
£60 for 20 mins seems a little extreme!

Thats it really - I just think it's a lot, I've not had a parking fine before & it just seemed high.

I've paid the half price £30 and all is OK in the world again (at least my little corner of it)

edit - argh I'm too argumentative today! Sometimes when your having a bad day it;s nice to have a little moan about it & get some other peoples input to put things back into perspective thats all......
