Parking Fine

Hi,

I parked in front of a shop, in an area that had permits. There was no ticket inspector around so I popped into the shop in the corner of the road for five minutes.

I came back and saw a CCTV car opposite the road. I quickly jumped into my car and drove off.

Today I got a letter with parking fine and pictures of my car parked. According to the letter there is a video as well which I can view.

Are they allowed to fine me like that? Is there any way round it? Has anyone else had this happen to them?

I am looking for an argument to throw so I don't have to pay the fine. Your experiences may help.

Thanks

Same as being caught speeding with the same method, AFAIK.
#2
Dont really know what excuse you could use but they are barstewards :viking: catching you like that!
#3
well you could get a doctor to write that it was a medical emergency for you to go into the shop and get a bar of snickers as if you didnt you would've starved to death
#4
Well you have admitted in the above to parking where you should not have done so and yes, you can be caught with CCTV in that manner.

Whilst blocking the road or people with legitimate reasons to park there is fine?
#6
I'm just waiting for a "I killed a guy and got caught, is there any way of getting off scot free?" thread.
#7

Always one? It always confuses me how much people dislike traffic wardens, without them or other traffic and parking enforcement, our roads would be impossible to use, car parks would be unusable and it would be impossible to get anything done. They keep parking available and the roads clear, where possible.

Personally no, I have never once parked where I shouldn't have done. Can not say the same about going above the speed limit (though I am consciencious in attempting to keep to limits), but that's not relevant to this thread.

Presumably you have a normal lengthed car, so you either parked poorly or there was insufficient space for another car.
#11
The fine must only be about £30 if you pay within 14 days? Pay up, learn your lesson, and move on...

i had at the time a renault laguna estate, which was backed up to a wall thus hanging out at the fron with plenty of space to pass, thanks for the assumption of my being unable to park but i am more than capeable of parking/driving without taking up more than my designated space.

and in another local town there are no parking charges and no parking enforcement its the town with the least parking problems around here and the shops are also going from strength to strength

No, I never made that assumption, so no need to thank me for it. A Laguna is a standard sized car, hence the parking space was either insufficient for your car and only meant for a very small car, or the car was incorrectly parked.

Have you not thought that the second comment you have made is just a coincidence and the actual cause is something else? Quite clearly, parking enforcement does help parking problems, but also quite obviously, it is only used in areas where it is necessary. The fact that you don't have it in another local time is probably because of the lack of problems, not the other way around.

As the BBC put very well recently, "Shark attacks rise when ice cream sales rise, does that mean ice creams cause shark attacks?".

Be more adventurous, go down the 'evil twin' route.

It's £100, reduced to £50 if I pay within 21 days. I would have not minded if a Parking Attendant gave me the fine but using a CCTV car that must have been hiding somewhere has really annoyed me.
#22
beleive me i understand the being annoyed, but maybe you should be annoyed with yourself for chancing it, i would be. they are only doing their job.
#23
The rule used to be that they had to give you a ticket, but rules have come in (this year I think!) saying that they can fine you with picture evidence, as long as they send the ticket by post.

A few easy ways of getting out are if the car registration is wrong or if the date/time are wrong...
#24
Scanning in the letter, and posting it on http://forums.pepipoo.com/ may well help. These people are geeks on the parking system, to the extent that they pick holes in the wording of the fine, which then makes it unenforceable.

Are you in London? Under TfL? I knew they was bringing in this system off CCTV booking, but wasn't aware it was already live.

or location .. but sounds like it is correct here.

I know that parking attendants are required to keep things moving - a modern day necessary evil - but thing that used to wind me up is parking attendants that arrived on mopeds, parked on double yellow lines to book another driver that had parked on a doulble yellow. This seems to have ceased in my area now but used to make my blood boil.

When i was on holiday just recently, i went to a popular seaside resort, and the only space was a mini sized space at the entrance to the car park. So i parked my big Mazda 6 there. What else are you supposed to do if there are no other spaces?

you have to laugh really, and if it was a disabled space what would you have done then, or if there had been no space what would you have done

Totally different circumstances, on a disabled space i would have been forced to wait, but it's not my fault that they are greedy bugggers and squeeze as many cars in as possible, without thinking about size. Yes my cars large, but not overly large, only mondeo, vectra sized.

In that sort of situation, most people are parked for the day, i could have waited half an hour for someone to go, to find that that was also a "small" space

at then end of the day, people who park where they shouldnt take the chance of being fined, fine take the chance but dont whine about it when caught

I don't, i just appeal

Peodude 3 - 0 Parking Attendants :-D:-D:-D

They didn't even bother replying to any of them :whistling:

lmfao if they dont bother replying how do you work out its 3-0, maybe there just waiting for you to get a few more before cashing in

Because if they wanted to take me to court, then they would have to lay papers within 6 months of the alleged incident, which has now well and truly passed, over 2 years ago.

peodude im not sure that is true at all. my friend got done for loads some well over two years

I TOTALLY back up this method!!!!
I live next to a shop and people are forever parking across my drive (so i can't get in or out!) or on corners making it dangerous to pull out as i can't see whats coming. I have involved the police before and physically got a van moved once. Think about what you did. does not matter how long you were. Imagine you lived there and paid for your permit and you came home to find no space because someone wanted to use the shop. You wouldn't be happy. Pay up. Hush up and move on!
#36
BURST INTO THE OFFICE THROW YOU £50 AT THEM AND PROUDLY SAY

"and i would like to have a colour picture and video for that £50 please :D"

this is my fav parking warden video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EyhDcz6eGwc

and this one i just found PMSL http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fK9avAZ0lwc&feature=related
