Parking in front of other peoples drive

Why do people thinks its ok to park their car infront of someones dropped curb drive way. Was just going to go to Asda but to get my car of the drive I will have to drive over the grass verge which has plants on it and bounce down the kerb because someone has dumped their car half over my drive. Dont know whos car it is and young kids either side of me so dont want to go out and start blowing the horn. The rest of the street is empty could have parked anywhere. Rant over now thanks

Put a 6 inch nail under each tyre, usually does the trick

serious

Just make sure you see who gets in the car & deal with it. They have no right to do it & it is up to you to make sure it doesn't happen again. It used to happen to me when i was married but i soon nipped it in the bud

Fire up your printer, print out a suitably rude message on A4, then superglue it to the windscreen.
Most satisfying.

put a notice up saying

large, heavy objects are moved in and out of this driveway 24HR we can not be held responsible for cars accidently damaged if blocking the drive

then take great pleasure in dropping a big plant pot on their car

they do it on my drive all the time....I just sit at the bottom of my drive (in the car obviously) and constantly sound the horn...never failed to have the offending car moved within a minute or so.....Its worse at mine....I had the drive converted out of part of my garden and an existing walkway....so by deed the neighbours do have access to the back of their properties via the 'walkway' area...however they presume its their drive to use as and when.....Caused many an argument, they seem to recently have got the idea though :)

i think you might find that just because you have a dropped curb in front of your driveway does not mean no-one can park there and does not give you right of access to the road.
unless you have double yellow lines there there is no reason why someone can not park there, yes it maybe inconsiderate but that is how it is, sorry.
#22
was car gone when you got back ?
#23
put a note on the car for sure. very rude to park like that

Thats nuts!! why would yo pay the highway agencies to drop the kerb if it came with no added benefits, people would just bump it up!! if your car is on the drive they are not allowed to block you in!

our local council told us we could pay to have a white " H" painted in front of the drive and then the police will enforce a parking ticket, not sure how true this is as we didnt do it cos they wanted £1500.00 to paint it

ill do it for £1000

No, thats not how it is, it is illegal and has been since 2004.

Parking alongside Dropped Kerbs

Parking alongside dropped kerbs is prohibited in London under the provisions of Section 14 of the London Local Authorities and Transport for London Act 2003.
Part 6 of the Traffic Management Act 2004 when enacted will repeal section 14 and give all local authorities in England with civil parking enforcement powers the ability to take action when a vehcile is parked alongside a dropped kerb in a Special Enforcement Area (that is, an area where parking is, in all other instances, permitted). The regulations underpinning Part 6 of this Act are due to come into force early in 2008.
Action to regulate and enforce pavement parking or parking alongside dropped kerbs is strictly a matter for the relevant local authority. The Department for Transport cannot intervene.

if you look for some tiny stones, you will need 3, unscrew the dust caps and insert the stone into three dustcaps, slowly and quietly the tyres will go flat once the dust caps are put back on.

the owner wont do it again and also YOU ONLY HAVE ONE SPARE TYRE..

so while there trying to sort there car you can hide behind the curtain laughing at them, lol.
#32
Jumpingphil
That is only true while there isn't a car on the drive.

firstly I thought its in the Highway code that you shouldnt park over a dropped kerb (regardless of the reason its dropped)

and also....fair comment, but my drive leads to a garage...a person can never tell if there is a car in the garage or not...

[email protected], deal! no the council have to paint it to let the highways people and the police now its there, seems theres a lot of paperwork involved..lol
so now when ever someone blocks the drive i sit on the bonnet and wait, or go out shouting at the taxies and vans turning on the drive , one guy had a right go at me one day he was parked on the drive and we were coming back from somewhere and he wouldnt get off the drive, he moved when my hubby got out cos is 6ft 4 and huge

somebody did it to us once!! . . . . i purposly waited til i was going to do the horses @ 4:30AM before letting them know i needed to get out!!! a good door bang with a splash of horn at that hour tends to keep em clear!!

Well got to go as up really early again in the morning but if the car is still there I will use some of the tips mentioned above Good night

If it's on flat ground ....Trolley Jack the car from the side near the rear wheels .....get a couple of mates and push the car so it sits sideways across the road causing an obstruction ...... then call police and watch how fast they tow it away ...... :-D

You'll be surprised how easy it moves on a trolley jack .....:)
banned#36
you do anything vindictive and they'll know exactly who it is as it's your house theyve parked in front of and blocked in.
I would write a strongly worded note and keep tabs on who they are when they come back so you know which house to complain to shoudl it happen again.

if you've never had this happen to you i don't think you understand how frustrating this is, i can within inches of driving my car through some eejit who parked across my driveway , because i new it would be me at fault but after countless polite visits tothe neighbouring garage to ask their customers to move their car off my property i must confess i lost it.
I would definately go with the superglue a note on the window, no damage as such but hellish to remove, its amazing how few times you actually have to do it before your drive is left pure and unsullied.

I don't make the rules. That is how I think it is.
May or may not be true but from other peoples answers, it could vary depending on where you live.

I agree. I have read a few times that you can park on a dropped kerb as long as you are not preventing a vehicle LEAVING the adjacent premises.

Mind you, you would have to be a complete narcisistic moron to do so!

It is very frustrating to have this happen to you. At my last house I had someone parking across half of my drive on a continuing basis and yes it irritated me. I phoned the police to try and get my facts straight and was given the advice that it is only an offence if they parked across it when my car was there and best to speak to the car owner to see if it can be resolved amicably. I decided to park across the bottom of my drive for 2 weeks and they got the hint :) I did have a letter all ready to pop on the screen if they came back but they did stop. In the letter I said that as my drive was a steep gradient that I was fearful of hitting their car twhen it is parked across my drive.

My neighbours though when they had their get togethers I let them use my drive, park across it in the knowlege that if I need out quickly then be prepared to move day/night .

I share a long drive to the side of the new house and have parking on front as well. I park on the front and have told neighbour that he's free to let his friends/family use my bit.
