Parking in York? Anywhere free?

I have a job interview in York, and if I get it I will be working in the town centre. I would be looking at getting the train (half an hour) and walking into town if I cant get a cheap/free parking space.

Does anyone know of any?

Considering York is one of the top tourist cities in the UK the chance of finding a cheap or free car parking place anywhere near the city centre is nil.

In fact that is probably true of almost all city centres nowadays, but with York having many narrow historic streets, and thousands of toursits, it would be even more so.

Not a chance, the few car parks in York are small & extortionate! There's one multi stotey in the centre but that is also very pricey (& the stairs stink of wee). Better off on the train or maybe trying one of their park & rides.

Yes indeed there is a place about 5 mins walk from city centre that's free but can't remember the street name so fat lot of good i am sorry

in fact there are only about 5 spaces anyway so you may not have got a free space. Best option is park & ride :)

park and ride is good at york think its about 3 quid for the day with parking but cheaper if you buy longer periods

+1, we used the one next to a sewer plant. It stunk but was free parking and bus was only £1.70 each.

lol............

Everywhere costs in York, lived here all my life. but depends where in york you want to go, near the centre you will have to pay, but if you look alittle further out you will find afew side streets that DO NOT require permits, I usually leave my vechile down them and suggest to family to leave them there too!

you can put it in a supermarket carpark for a max stay of 2 hours free, Sainsburys on fossislands.

There are lots of free parking spaces, you just need to know where they are ;-)

Depends what area of town you will be working, but you can generally find free parking spaces within 10 minutes walk of the walls pretty much all round town. Scarcroft Road is usually good if you need to get to the Micklegate end; Bishopthorpe Road and Holgate Road and sidestreets also have free parking after a certain distance out of town. It is a bit of a gamble as the free spaces can fill up quite early mind...

Whatcha on about? Its almost the Mount, poshest postcode in York :giggle:

Seriously though, its one of the better places to park I reckon, close enough to town and usually has spaces. Fold you wing-mirrors in though!

{Not to mention the fact the a cyclo-cop-junior and his buddy will pass down that road every 20 minutes or so!}

LOL... You have very little chance of getting a paid spot in York, let alone a free one.

It's a great city, but packed. Use a Park and Ride. My choice is usually the Designer Outlet one to the south just off the A64 at the A19 junction.

I usually park in Foss Islands road car park by Sainsburys. Used to be 70p an hour.
