Really depends if its a council/police one or a private land one.
If its council they will, via the courts, hound you to the ends of the earth
If its a private contractor its the coin toss wheither they can be bothered to chase it up if you ignore any letters.

Nope, here is a very useful forum. I stood my ground received three notices including the 1st notice, heard nothing since this was 3 years ago.

Cos the police don't know nothing. It's a civil matter, they're not interested, like they're not interested in illegal clampers.

Offer her a guarantee, say that if she gets taken to court then you will pay any charges out of your pocket.

Oi! Maybe on parking they may not be 100% but criminal matters then yes they should be, unless it's a useless one (there's always one)

Hi,
I recently had some dealings with parking eye and thought I'd share them. I had a client at work who had been issued with a parking ticket from them and was unsure whether to pay the fine; their telephone line is completely automated and their dispute line unhelpful; so I rang the shop where the alleged offence had taken place. I explained to them that I could not speak to a person at parking eye and was not happy that I would with dealing with a fully automated service and reminded them that their dispute procedure needed to be alot clearer and more widely available (I think it also helped that I was a 3rd party and completely unrelated to the person who the ticket had been issued). The shop agreed to contact parking eye on behalf of my client and cancel his fine. RESULT! I don't know if it would help for you to contact the shop/company where this took place but worth a shot. Also take a look at http://www.adviceguide.org.uk/index/t_parking_fines.pdf for some basic info on private parking fines and your rights.
Hope this helps!

Claire, do you work at CAB?

Don't get me wrong, i'm not slagging them off, i'm just saying they don't know nothing about private parking companies. As for criminal law, well, there;s so many it's impossible to know them all, but as long as they know all the major ones then that is fine.

CAB?? I work in a solicitors, unfortunately this kind of complaint is quite common (probably something to do with the fact that parkeye operate in the city centre!) and this is my only personal success story, have heard of a few people ringing the original companies and getting their fines voided though :-)

Thought you worked at CAB as you referred to Advice Guide
#20
people on here have referred me to it before re consumer stuff, really handy for getting to know your rights :-)

Pay it and they'll go away straight away

Don't pay it and they'll hassle you until they get fed up. Don't think I've heard of anyone going to court over it. Usually goes no further than threatening letters

some people would rather pay than being threatened with court/bailiffs - even if they're bluffing

Think of it this way, if you was with Sky, and Virgin sent you a bill for £80, reduced to £50 if paid within 14 days, would you pay it, or would you tell them to F.O.?

it depends, if it was to pay for my phoneline i would ;) nice to get a discount. if it was random id politely tell them where to shove it
#24
Check out the Consumer Action Group forums too. Really helpful advise there!
My advice...DO NOT pay!

They will hound you with letters but eventually give up
#25
i have done all this but shes too worried as the police have told her she has to pay

its got nothing to do with the police

why are they even involved?

funny how they get involved in stuff nowt to do with them but are unwilling to investigate frauds and thefts!!

for the record ive had about 5 of these through the post they eventually go away

point is dont overstay if you are worried in the first plce
