I am a part qualified CIMA accountant with over 5 years experience in finance and a degree in accounting and statistics.

I work for the biggest mobile telecommunications company in the UK for almost 2 years now as a Financial Accountant.

I am becoming rather frustrated and bored with my day job. I am working 50+ hours a week and making regular business trips to London, which is impacting my studies with no real financial encouragement to keep going.

I have always been interested in being a crime/intelligence analyst of some description and I was wondering if anyone could potentially point me in the direction of business that use these?

I unsuccessfully applied for Avon and Somerset Police a couple of years ago but got through to the assessment centre stage. The case study in question was something that would really interest me as a day job. However, I see that they are having a recruitment freeze at the moment so further jobs there look unlikely.

Any help/advice etc would be fantastic!

An ex of mine was/is a Special Constable (I was very disappointed when they supplied her with trousers and not a skirt but I digress lol) and she was told it's the best way up the ladder for joining the force full time but it's not always financially viable if you cannot find a job that works with this.

work for yourself.

MI5 recruit for Intelligence Officers. It's a long process (6 months +) but if that's the sort of thing you're interested in, may be worth looking at.

Thanks for the comment. Just had a look at the MI5 website and they don't have anything suitable at the moment - and I expect that anything that they do have in the future will be based in London.

I also looked at the RAF but that again would involve relocating and potential posting abroad.

Anyone know of any businesses in other areas in the South West? Perhaps something like private security firms, tracing agencies, etc?

NHS have a fraud detection unit. Skills such as yours are required to track down those defrauding NHS funds e.g dentist claiming for work not done. NHS freeze at present but if you take a look at NHS jobs, site there may be some openings there

Thanks, again a sector of the country where employment is quite slow/non-existent but I shall keep my eyes open :)
