Passport Office London?

I have an appointment tomorrow morning (Saturday) at 9.15 trying to get a fast track passport.

Trouble is .... we have a wedding we have to get to at 12! Travel back home will be about 45 minutes. I have someone who could collect for me in the afternoon if they agree to issue one.

Has anyone been here recently and can tell me how long I may have to wait to be seen? And how long the 'meeting' takes?

Thanks for any help.

Is it just a renewal? If so, the appointment will be very quick - standing at a counter.

You will just have to go and collect it later on in the day

It's more complicated than that, I'm not sure they'll even issue it.

My son had his passport and walllet stolen last night, and he travels first thing Monday morning.

But the passport that was stolen was still his old childs one, and now he'd need an adult one as he's 18, this type of of thing usually isn't sorted on fast track, apparently.

However, we're going to give it a try and see what they say.

Is it a holiday he is travelling for or to see family or something?
You need to give them a bit of a sob story, I assume your son reported the theft to the police? If so, definitely take along your crime report number and the holiday/flight details.

There is hope but you will have to make it sound like exceptional circumstances.

I have had to go to the London office twice without even having an appointment and managed to get sorted both times.
The first time I went was to get my daughter her first passport to go away that same evening - we didn't have anything booked as we were driving to Morocco but told them about 'family emergency'. They told me it was impossible but then decided to do it for me.
The second time was early last year when we literally went to get on our plane to Jamaica and they realised that my daughters passport was out of date - went to the office at 9am and got them to see me and reissue a passport same day so we could fly out the next day. The rest of the family went on the flight so I told the office that my son was young to be without me for the whole week and I had my husbands medication with me which he needed.

Hope this advice helps and hope you get sorted.

P.S. The appointments bit is very efficient as they don't have many 'customers' there at a time - even without an appointment I was seen very quickly. The airport had already phoned the passport office for me and they said that there was no way they could see me today, but the airline assistance suggested I go and try to get seen anyway.

I was in same position an few weeks ago. Not sure if they are open Sat PM but I had appt and then passport ready 4 hrs later. Somone else collected it for me, they have to have and show the reference No (given in the morning) and your signature that they can collect for you.

Thank you all for your replies.

It turned out just fine. We got there by 9, waited outside with about 30 or 40 people also with 9.15 appointments. The fact we all had the same appt time was a bit ominous.

Well .... we were in, through security, checked in and given a number, upstairs to the 2nd floor, called to a counter, dealt with all the paperwork, paid at a different counter all within 15 minutes! Incredible, eh?

I am going back this afternoon to collect it (he has given me a letter stating I can collect on my son's behalf).

Incredibly well organised, a very slick and easy process.
Fingers crossed it's there waiting for me when I get there or I could be eating my words.

Hi there, I have an appointment on Wednesday, mine was for the passport people's cock up by putting the wrong year of birth in my passport, I only realised it when I got a letter back from someone saying there was a discrepancy etc, I am being told, having an appointment doesn't mean anything, you still will have to get a ticket and wait....??? Why book an appointment then. I hope I'm not there all day!!
