I am sure if you are renewing a passport you dont need anyone to countersign it. Def dont for an adult.
You need 6 months left on your passport for Cuba

you do need people to sign
get their teacher to sign them

Doctors (unless personal friend) will not now sign a passport as they have to give too much of their own personal info when doing so - (I work in GP surgery)

I think you have to have it counter signed if you are changing the photo? if its the same photo it doesnt need to be. i think thats right for adults, not sure about kids.

I have just renewed my 15 year old daughters passport after contacting the passport office ( was actually renewed at PO.)
As long as there is no significant change to th childs features then no counter signature is required.
Renewed with new photo.

3.3 From 10/12/07 any applications to renew a passport for children under 12 are required to be countersigned. This will assist in establishing the identity of the child whose appearance may have changed considerably since their passport was granted.

Seems it also depend on childs age!

They also need to have known you (not the kids) for three years.

Didnt have to get my kids passports signed on renewal, but i know i asked my boys headmistress to sign them when i first got them passports, also you can ask their doctor to sign them, they're the sort of people that can say they've known them for the required amount of time. Always difficult with children as obviously there's less people that know them. hth x
