ive never understood the 6 months thing, surely that just makes a 10 yr passport in effect a 9 and a half year passport, stupid if you ask me

best to see country of choice's rules

You can renew it and extra time will be added to your passport.. for instance renew now and you should get a new passport for ten yrs plus the extra month x x

Entry is different for each country, but within the EU most are happy if the passport covers the period of travel.

Was going to recommend the same thing.

Doesn't take too long too.

You don't want to be on holiday, get quarantined for swine, and stuck in a country .. during which time your passport expires.

yeah good idea lol, was thinking of majorca, they allow travel up until expiry, but your right would rather renew now, than get stuck out there with swine flu etc lol thanks for all ur advice cheers

Im off to Italy in October (Thanks QuidCo!) my passport runs out January 2010...on the site given by choc (Cheers!) it states:
Passport validity
Please ensure that your passport is valid for the duration of your stay in Italy.

Do ya think I'd be safe in not renewing? :?

I can't see myself travelling for at least 12 months after that!

TURKEY

Passport validity

Your passport should be valid for at least six months on entry into Turkey and have at least three months' validity on the date you are exiting Turkey. If you hold a Travel Document it must be valid for at least one year on entry into Turkey.

I reckon you would be safe, but you never know what might turn up and current passport are always useful for ID, so I wouldn't let it lapse if I were you.

Looks like you've got the details - excellent and well deserved.

In almost every case they will let you in if you have a return ticket that flys before the passport expires. They all say 6 month/3 months to encourage ppl to apply early.
