Paternity Pay Advice

Hi all,

Im looking into paternity pay and today found that because i started my job in Dec that im not entitled to paternity pay from my employer as i needed to be there for much longer than 2 months. This rule seems to apply to maternity pay too.

I was wondering though, I have been working and paying NI for 10 years. Can i claim a paternity allowance (rather than pay) from the government?
I know this can be done for maternity allowance (if the lady has not been in employment with the current employer for long enough) so am hoping its the same for Paternity although i cant find any definate information.

Hoping someone here can help?

This is the part im having trouble with as i started work for my current employer on dec 1st and the baby is due on 29th March. :

*you must have continued to work for the same employer without a break for at least 26 weeks by the 15th week before the baby is due, or employed up to and including the week your wife, partner or civil partner was matched with a child*

If i cant get anything fair enough but i could do with not losing two weeks pay while I look after my girlfriend and the baby so thought i would ask about to see if there is anything i can do to minimise the financial strain.

Speak to your work. Mr bubbles changes jobs just before I had AM and his work still gave him Pat leave.

You can only ask

Good luck (with the leave and the baby :) )
