Hollywood actor Patrick Swayze has been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer.

he star of Dirty Dancing and Ghost is currently undergoing treatment for the disease, his representatives have confirmed.

A statement said that Swayze's doctor believes the actor has a "limited amount of disease and he appears to be responding well to treatment thus far".

Swayze's representatives continued: "All of the reports stating the timeframe of his prognosis and his physical side effects are absolutely untrue.

"We are considerably more optimistic. Patrick is continuing his normal schedule during this time, which includes working on upcoming projects.

"The outpouring of support and concern he has already received from the public is deeply appreciated by Patrick and his family."

Swayze, 55, is best known for his role as dance instructor Johnny Castle opposite Jennifer Grey's character, infatuated teenager Frances "Baby" Houseman, in the 1987 movie musical Dirty Dancing.

by the time this kind of cancer is diagnosed, its too far gone too operate. generally 6weeks to 6months if you lucky.
i know because my aunt was diagnosed last year, luckily, they made an error and it turned out to be something not quite so lethal.

so sad
#10
I hope he gets better, he looks like a good guy, loved him in Dirty Dancing and Donnie Darko
#11
I wish there was a cure for cancer....
#12
I have heard there are days or weeks to live, im not 100% sure if the press are making it sound worse than it is as he is meant to be responding well to treatment. Guess time will tell.
#13
it is indeed very sad - but as Shane mentioned, once this form of cancer has been diagnosed, it cannot be cured - just controlled. My mother in law was diagnosed in Sept 06 and battled the disease until July 07

I am not sure I understand how your Auntie or Mother-in-Law can be afflicted by this type of cancer unless there has been some sort of gender-modification involved??

My grandad came home from work one day with a nose bleed that wouldn't stop, he went to the doctors who sent him for tests at the hospital. They then diagnosed him with cancer of the pancreas. They operated straight away but said it was way too advanced, although he had not felt unwell or anything up till the nose bleed. They said he probably had 6 months, but he never came home again and he was dead within 3 weeks. He was only 44 and I was 7, but I can still remember it all.
That was 20 years ago, let's hope things have progressed a bit since then. Dirty Dancing fans all over the world will be traumatised.
#23
That's really sad.

gutting news, i remember having posters all over my wall and ceiling of him. fingers crossed for him x dirty dancing is just the best film EVER

Thanx for that - I had malignant carcenoma of the pancreas, one the size of a tennis ball the other the golf ball size-Major internal 'pruning'.

That was 10 years ago last January and I love life and am a happy bunny!

News of this was broken by the Enquirer on Monday.

thats great news. i only said that, as that was what i was told to expect. It hit our family hard because i had only just lost another aunt to bowel cancer, and my nan died the year before.
Like i said, it turned out to not be pancreas cancer but something else, something very rare but with all the symptoms of pancreas cancer, just not as lethal. In any other circumstance, that news would have been terrifying, but it was good news to us because it wasnt cancer.

Well doctors are stating its untrue the little amount of time left still. He is managing to carry on with his schedule....i read this...

The star of Dirty Dancing and Ghost is currently undergoing treatment for the disease, his representatives have confirmed.

But they have quashed reports that he only has a short time to live, with his doctor saying in a statement Swayze has a "limited amount of disease and he appears to be responding well to treatment thus far".
