Want the option of occasional mobile broadband without paying hotels, campsites etc what is fast becoming extortionate prices for wifi access.

Like the look of the mifi and while checking out deals came across this post which seems to suggest it is extremely easy to unlock at no cost. To good to be true gene kicked in at this point.

However If this is true this 1month contract purchase is looking attractive.

So wondering if anybody has experience or info on unlocking the mifi and/or views on pay as you go mobile broadband options.

I can confirm that this method works, see this thread. It IS fiddly, so might take you a while. but as far as i can tell, no modifications are being done to the device itself (well at least until you enter the unlock code), so pretty much risk-free. Don't forget you should be eligible for some free spotify through three see here.

PAYG mobile broadband options...
I was wondering about this, until recently three had a loophole that made them very cheap.
I have found that the network shops won't sell a sim-only mobile broadband. They will try to sell you dongles. However i finally got connected using a free sim intended for a phone.

Although they tell you not to, you seem to be able to use the data packages intended for smart phones, these sometimes work out cheaper. On payg I imagine the worst they can do is cut you off.

Let us know what you find, its been a couple of months since i looked.

Thanks for the reply wobinb. Judging by the lack of responses and by the barely warm vote for the deal I posted about the same time there does not seem much call for these.

I assume if people had a better/cheaper option they would have shared it with us.
