It should have a secure lock on the address bar saying Paypal, Inc. (US) :)

Just make sure your address bar says Paypal.co.uk / Paypal.com

do this:

click start => run => type in cmd and press enter
then in dos prompt which show's up type "ping paypal.com"
you will get an answer like:

Pinging paypal.com [66.211.168.209] with 32 bytes of data:
(not necessarily the same number combination)

then type ping -a
you should get something like

C:\>ping -a 66.211.168.209

Pinging node-66-211-168-209.networks.paypal.com [66.211.168.209] with 32 bytes of data:

if your response has *.paypal.com in its name, then that means that your hosts file is not "tampered" with, and by going to https://www.paypal.com you are pretty sure that you are going to the right site (oh! as long as you don't go via a proxy: for that check your internet explorer settings)

these are the two ways i can think a hacker could spoof paypal (tempering your hosts file to send paypal.com to another server, and changing the way proxy works to send you to another site)

cheers
