Has anyone ever had an "under review" transaction with Paypal?

I recieved a payment from a buyer on ebay last night which is "under review" on the paypal screen, ive never seen this before and wondering what its all about and whether its suggesting a dodgy buyer.

Anyone had this before?

Problem I have is that I sold concert tickets which I have to hand over to them today in person as the concert is tonight and trying to find out from paypal if there is anything dodgy is proving impossible.

Any help would be appreciated.

I think this is a new thing paypal are doing for certain items like phones etc that sell for high prices and could be forgery's so perhaps your tickets also fall into this category. If so, then as soon as the buyer leaves feedback then the money gets released into your account and, as usual, ebay are siding with the buyer, they'll soon have no sellers left on there in my opinion!! This doesn't really help with your decision about handing over the tickets but I guess you might have to and just tell the buyer to leave feedback, the money will have left their account already.

Is that not money on Hold?

edit: Paypal tell you that if you have to post and after you get feeback or after 21 days, your money is released

if you aren't posting the items get cash on delivery as they could claim they didn't receive them. get the buyer to cancel the payment and give you cash

The buyer did ask to pay by cash and I said no as I didnt want to risk ending up with a pile of forged notes potentially and foolishly thought paypal would be better

You should of accepted cash, as in person you will have no paypal acceptable proof of delivery and can claim INR and get a full refund.
This payment is not on hold, paypal have stopped it for another reason, so don't hand them over, get cash.

By the sounds of it there is a big risk either way.

I hand over the tickets and stay with paypal and they could hand the money back to the buyer

I accept cash and hand over the tickets and I could end up with a pile of forged notes

mmm decisions decisions........

I sold a phone on eBay four weeks ago, was paid via PayPal but told not to post yet as payment was "under review". The next day they said "Ok to post" so I did.
Now four weeks later a "claimback" has been made against my account & the money has gone again.

Not so good....

What happened from there then or are you now out of pocket and no phone either??

PayPal have taken the money out of my account but are "holding" it while the case is under review. Fortunately I used recorded delivery & kept my receipt, I posted it when they said & to the address listed, so hopefully I'll be ok. - It's only been a few days so far & they say the resolution process can take 75-100 days!!
It is worrying :-(

mmm it sure is eh, as someone said earlier ebay seem to care less and less about the seller......

I think im just going to need to risk it as the tickets are going to be worthless after today.

Ive found the seller with the address ebay had in the BT phone book so think ill just need to ask for some proof of identify when I meet them and assuming they can show me something with their name and address hopefully it will be ok as then proof, ebay and phone book will all have the same name and address.......

Fingers crossed it works out ok

If you have seller protection and can prove delivery, and signature of customer online for over £150 you will get your money back as a seller. Anything over £150 MUST go special or courier, where an online signature is available in a dispute. Recorded may well not be enough if the phone was over £150.............
I cannot say how important it is, if you want to sell regularly or high value items, please make yourself familiar with paypal t&c's read all the small print.
As for the tickets, if you hand them over tonight, you must be bonkers, the payment is not on hold, it's under review, you have no cleared funds, paypal can reverese that payment anytime.
Take cash, it's safer, if your worried about forged notes, then ask for BT. But with all due respect this is a risk you take selling on ebay, and cash in hand is a million times less risk than PP for collection items.
Take cash, at least you have something even if forged lol, as at the moment with payment under review, you have nowt anyway.................

Its the first time ive ever had to do a collection "sale" which is just due to the circumstances of not being able to go to the gig at very short notice, and that the tickets will be worth nothing at 8pm tonight.......

The transaction is £225 which personally I think is a crazy amount for two concert tickets, but I dont expect to be a big seller of high value items in the future

Appreciate your help
