Paypal Advice Needed

I've sold an mobile phone on Ebay, the buyer has an unconfirmed address.
I'm a bit confused, as previously paypal did not offer protection but now seems to hint you are protected.
Can anyone please confirm to me paypal protection status for unconfirmed buyers.

Providing you send this either recorded signed for or special delivery (hence it has a tracking ref) then you are covered.

My interpretation of the latest paypal announcement regarding confirmed and unconfirmed addresses was that they made no distinction upon protection/cover. As long as you have proof of postage (I almost always send mines recorded or special depending on the package value) so that you can provide paypal with a recorded or special delivery reference then that should be sufficient in order to overcome any dispute regarding 'Item Not Received'. :thumbsup:

Do you? When did this change? Wont be using PayPal with eBay anytime soon then!

Where does it state it on the PayPal website, didnt find anything that stated proof of delivery was a defnite requirement?

Dont like this idea that of PayPal leaving sellers completely vulnerable. :thumbsup:

its always been proof of delivery hasnt it? Proof of postage doesnt help an 'item not received' claim does it?

thats why I always use recorded / special delivery as then you get a proof of delivery.

Strange one that. I've had several disputes opened against me for item not received but all I ever needed to provide was the recorded delivery postage reference number and that was enough to close the dispute as it prooved I posted the item. Never had a request for proof of delivery. :?

You are getting confused.

the recorded delivery postage reference number is to prove delivery, not proof of posting which some people get when posting the item (no additional charge) and think this covers them which it doesnt from a paypal claim. They can still claim back a max of £36 from the RM.


In a dispute, you send paypal the RM ref number and paypal check there that it has been delivered:-

lol...thanks for that. But I'm not getting confused. What I said was that in any disputes raised against me, PayPal happily accepted the Recorded Delivery Reference as proof of postage. As we all know including the RM website states that Rec Del proof of delivery cant take some time to be made available. All I'm saying is that in my experience of PayPal disputes is that PayPal accepted the Recorded Delivery reference as enough evidence to support my side of the dispute in order for me to win it. Thats all. :thumbsup:

Agreed. But all Recorded Delivery numbers are scanned by RM now into their system so they know where it has been posted, what time it was posted and also has a delivery postcode and door number attached to the RM record, so now they can identify whether someone is telling the truth or not.

Previously I also sent them (wasnt required to but it couldnt hurt by case) a scanned image of the delivery reference receipt showing it stamped and signed by the Post Office staff to further support the number that I had provided. No requirement to do that now as all Recorded Delivery is now electronically stored and recorded. Or at least it should be, my advice to anyone is to make sure that when sending recorded to get the receipt showing the recorded delivery reference number and make sure it has the delivery postcode and door number showing destination address as verified.

Nowadays I try not to use eBay and PayPal as they leave too many gaps for people to defraud you. :thumbsup:
