Basically, i've just sold a load of things on ebay (about 20 things). Everyone has paid me through PayPal. On the 'Instant payment Received' emails some say at the top:

Thanks for using PayPal. You can now send any items. To see all the transaction details, log in to your PayPal account.

It may take a few moments for this transaction to appear in your account.

But there are some (sales in the middle - not the first or last ones) that say:

Thanks for using PayPal. To accept this payment, youll need to upgrade to a Premier or Business account.

There is a fee associated with accepting payments.

It may take a few moments for this transaction to appear in your account.

Okay, so my account is unverified but from what I can tell, I have stayed within the limits, and according to my PayPal account the transactions have all been completed and the money is in the account.

So........ do I have the money? Why have they asked me to upgrade when they've completed the transaction? Will they take it away or is it on hold or something?

As always, i'm confused.

You can only accept 2 cc payments on a personal account before upgrading.

Ah, right! I didn't know about that one

So if I get it upgraded then it'll all be fine?
#2
So upgrading isn't the same as getting verified?

I've clicked to upgrade to a Premier account but will there be any differences? You mention 'fee paying accounts' - will I have to pay fees regularly or something?

p.s. rep left for being an absolute life-saver. The ebay items were some plates I sold for my mother - and I didn't fancy having to explain about any hold-ups! :)

lol. I've just sold £300 worth of absolute tat that i thought was worthless. Even if they take half of it, it's still £150 more than I had yesterday. :-D

Half of it? Have they had a fee cut lately then

instead of upgrading, why don't you just refund the buyers, email them and ask them to pay you with "cleared funds"?
this would mean you wouldn't pay any paypal fees.
if you upgrade, you'll be shafted for 3.4% of EVERYTHING you sell.

I've already upgraded - but I think i'll use this method on larger items - got a few boxed G1 Transformers that i'm going to sell. Might try them on here first though.

yeah I know you set up 2 Paypal accounts have one accept credit debit card payments and keep the other to not accept these EG do not upgrade, no need if you give out Paypal that accepts credit/debit transactions and see other items that can be paid for thru paypal funds on other account perfectly legit to do it that way.

PAYPAL = Thieves!

Yes it is  Although he would have to list on ebay using the fee paying account as you don't get told in advance whether it's a debit card payment or not. You get told after so you have to upgrade, little so and so's.

yup

mentioning only accepts paypal Funds (in listing payment details) and I do not accept credit debit card paypal funding would limit who can buy from you .

you can also decline the payment on personnel account from someone who has paid using either credit/debit card.

It is the reason I had to upgrade my account but then i got a personnel one again which cannot accept that kind of payment , Ebay Paypal is nothing but hassle :lol

That's against ebays rules, you either accept paypal in all forms or not at all.

HAHAHA you little rule breaker you:-D

I get away with it though. All items are collection only, paid in cash. Mind you I only list bulky items that even couriers don't like taking

eBay requires all sellers listing on eBay.co.uk to offer PayPal in their listings with the exception of listings in the following categories: cars, motorcycles, aircraft, boats, caravans, trailers, trucks (commercials), services and residential property.

That surely is illegal as paypal / ebay are same company and has to be a breach of monopolies or some trading rules , surely ?

Paypal are thieving illegitimates and Ebay are morons

tinkerbell28
No, Australia blocked some of paypal rules deeming them a monoply, over here they have never has no such challenge. So they carry on regardless...........

Go on start a campaign :lol

I think its correct sellers must offer Paypal,i won't pay any other way.

Yeah it is kinda good as long as they have changed the rules and that any payment made using paypal is protected no matter how big or small and is covered by any seller offering paypal instead of how it used to be, wherby only certain sellers and a certain amount was / is covered.

yeah for 3rd party
#24
you're not asking buyer to not have paypal protection, they get that anyway, it just avoids fees.
besides, technically, you're not breaking any rules.
its just a few mins extra on paypal for the buyer.
#25
fairplay. but i'm sure if you asked the winning buyer to pay in cleared funds, 99.9% wouldn't have a problem doing so.
#26
besides, nothing to stop you trying. worst you'll get is a "no" :)
#27
Do you have to use Paypal Logo ? been long time since I sold anything on ebay

Examples of actions that are not allowed on eBay:

refusing to accept a buyer’s PayPal payment using a credit card when the seller included the PayPal logo in the listing. For policy and examples, see PayPal Payments Policy.
