I tried to make a purchase from eBay using my PayPal account as normal like i have done many times in the past but this time when i tried to use PayPal i have a message telling me i have limited access due to a 3rd party trying to access my account and to follow the procedure of a new password and confirming my bank details.

However after doing this i have received an email telling me that the limited access cannot be lifted at this time and i have to send them a copy of my passport or driving license which i am not very keen on doing.

Now i am all for security and i am grateful to PayPal for for noticing this in the 1st place but copies passport and driving license, I don't think so ! ! !

This is certainly genuine as i have emailed PayPal through my account but feel this is not normal as it was so easy to open a PayPal account in the 1st place.

Anybody out come across this sort of thing before? comments and?or advice would be appreciated.

Well I don't have a passport or a driver's license. I'm 20 and haven't been abroad and don't plan on forking out over £50 just to prove my identity!! Nor do I want to drive on these stupid mad roads today, so I dunno what I'd do!!

Yeah I got done out of £40-odd from a german buyer, I sent it to an unconfirmed address but had the signed for receipt, but paypal wouldn't do anything. I've lost the receipt now so can't do much about it anyway

The same thing happened to me. A bit annoying at first and then someone hacked into my Paypal account and spent money on a laptop which was being shipped to Brazil!!!!!

I contacted Paypal who eventually ( 6 weeks later) reversed the transaction but in the meantime my account was suspended. I cancelled my account. Not worth the risk.

PEOPLE CAN AND DO HACK INTO PAYPAL!!!! BEWARE!!!!

Try phoning them up and talking to someone about it. Sometimes (not always mind you), you can get a much speedier and easier resolution talking to PayPal on the phone.

I had the same problem, Some lemon tried to hack my account, I changed my password and email address. However I didn't have to send anything off, I'd try phoning them and see what they say.

ive had this problem with paypal and they also wanted my passport as proof of ID, i phoned them and told them i wasn't happy about it and they told me to fax a bill with my name on and to black out any account numbers , it worked fine no problem reinstating my account

Thats what i did and the restriction was lifted within a week

Yeah Paypal are surprisingly bad with money...and the internet..
I tried to cancel my account when they restricted mine, but they wouldn't let me. Still restricted now (did get the money back though)

:-D Would be even funnier if if wasn't so close to the truth. I have lost count of the number of paypal admirers suddenly appearing on forums wondering why they can't get THEIR money for 6 months.

forewarned is forearmed
