Paypal buyer protection

Hi all,
just wanted to gather the collective wisdom here again.

I believe paypal has buyer protection, so that you should not be worried if you buy from a verified paypal account holder.
Where if they do not send the goods then you can take back the money you have sent them.

Can anyone give more details of that here?

its all dependant on weather the seller still has money in there acct to give bk or weather they have withdrawn it. Its pretty hit or miss weather u ever see any of it back!

Thanks for the responses.

Onlyme23 and dinky.ben, you seem to have had quite different experiences.

Any idea if this is anything to do with whether the paypal account you paid was verified or unverified. Verified accounts should be safer I believe as paypal has confirmed details of their bank, etc.

The buyer protection should cover it regardless of whether the seller has the money in their account as long as the seller meets the various requirements. This is different to making a claim back through Paypal if you've bought an item here for example where Paypal will simply attempt to recover any of the funds which are in the account which there normally isn't.

When you say electrical company was it ebay or not? As the query applies to ebay only.

the £150 only refers for ebay items and you defo get it back for them. if its for other companys not through ebay you dont stand a chance

Thanks John, didn't realise it was an ebay only enquiry. Just read paypal & saw a red mist  ;-)

Fair enough, I can't blame you for that at all - it was more just to make it clearer to the original poster, the Paypal buyer protection is offered on ebay transactions, it's either 150 pounds or 500 pounds depending on the seller. However anything outside of ebay means you get virtually no guarantee, if someone has scammed you they know that they're doing and will clear out the account long before Paypal get anywhere near it to try and get funds back.

Always pay for items via a credit card, that way you can do a charge back through them if things go belly up.

I have just had a dispute return in my favour, and for the £225.00 i paid paypal managed to get me back the princely sum of £2.91. Spoke to paypal about the buyer protection and they are going to look into it, in the mean time i have asked my CC company to start the chargeback process.

The best thing is paypal/ebay wont give me the sellers name so i can get the law on to him for his act which is nothing short of theft. At least robin hood wore a mask !!!

if you do have a problem getting your money back, their is a forum on ebay you can post your Paypal case number and the ebay number and you can get you money back easiest that way.
