Hi all,

I recently purchased a sky reciever from ebay which was stated as working, when it arrived it clearly wasn't, so i emailed the seller and asked him to supply his address so i could send the reciever back for a refund, the seller supplied his address and the reciever was returned, i checked online and he signed for the reciever on friday, i never heard anything so went to email today only to find he is no longer registered with ebay, i have opened a dispute with paypal to get my money back, what are my chances?

Thanks

you have proof that he signed for it and they can see it online, so i think you have a good choice. I have never had to go through this, so hopefully someone else can help gl

ah you should be ok. I had the same problem with a seller in the USA i purchased some new jumpers from. As soon as i paid the money he sent me an email saying they would be on their way soon however when i checked the next day, he was no longer registered so i logged a complaint and claim with paypal and had my money back about 10 days later.
Hope this helps and good luck. There are too many people out there now spoiling the ebay experience!

If you have proof of delivery then you should win the case, as for getting your money back, did they have PayPal buyer protection? If so, you should get your money back. if they didn't then it depends how much money they have in their account. If they have taken all their money out, you may not get a refund even if you win the case.

However, if that happens then you could always take them to the small claims court.

Thanks for the replies,

I cant show you the item number as it's saying it is no longer available.

How do i know if he had paypal buyer protection?

The amount was for £31

you can look at the paypal payment details? also you can look on ebay at your items purchased and you can see there his feedback previously and his recent sales?

That's odd. Does it say it was removed?

It would have said on the auction page.

Look to see if the seller had any other auctions up recently and see if it says on those pages.

Cant look at the ebay transaction as it has been removed, will log into paypal and have a look.

Hang on you paid £31 for a skybox?? Try local cash generators ours do them for £15!

Had the seller got much feedback at the time?

Details should still be in your My ebay section then under buying.
#15
It was a sky+ box
#16
Did you try checking to see if there are any other auctions pages for the seller still visible?
#17
I did check to see other items, but it just says, the seller has no items for sale.
#18
I had almost the same situation.

When the sky box arrived it was damaged and was missing the power cable. I contacted the seller and asked for a return address and suggested they take the matter up with royal mail. That was the last I heard from the seller and they to soon became "no longer registered user".

Fair play to paypal I raised a dispute and got my money back after 2 or 3 weeks.

So you should be ok.;-)

In the advanced search, click on the 'Items By Seller' option, then do a searc using their ID and make sure you tick the 'Completed Listings' box.

Alternatively, look at their feedback, and if they have sold anything recently that they were given feedback for, you should be able to click on it to go to the auction page.

Nothing came up using the advanced search? Strange. :?

For future reference, this page shows you what the PayPal Buyer Protection symbol looks like. :)

can u give us the sellers name? there should still be some evidence of him on ebay? maybe this was removed as it was for more than one item?
#25
His username was jn1791

Cant remember if i saw that protection symbol
#27
i can see your item in completed sales

All their listings have been removed.

Using Google cache, you can find one of their auctions and they don't have PayPal Protection. :-(

it was £16.50 and £14.50 postage so paypal will only give you the £16.50 back anyway if you win the claim..he has only been a member for 3 weeks!

They should give you back postage as well because the item wasn't as described. What they don't give back is the cost of postage to return the item.
#31
I was asked how much i was claiming, and although it cost me £7.27 to send back to him i wasn't claiming that just the £31 which i paid.

On his listing it did state 14 day no quibble money back offered, postage not refunded unless item isn't as listed.
#32
i claimed once and they didnt and i had to return at my cost too. I bought cutlery and it was damaged postage £10 item £10 and if I returned I could get £10 from paypal only and the selle would have the item to do it to someone else...

i feel really sorry-as a seller i have almost 1000 feedback and all positive and people like him make problems for us...i would never buy electricals now from ebay except small items like leads etc...
i hpe it is resolved to your satisfaction.
