its not that you maybe runing a business its a security measure to make sure that you are not laundering money even privately. If the email has a link to paypal to signin on then its a spoof and just delete it. If not then just comply.

Does that cost, what are the pro's + con's of it

Be careful-go to www.paypal.com and you will be directed what to do. If you have a personal account you dont pay fees to recive money-for a business or premier you do-I think around 4%-but its probably a phishing scam.

since when, i thought it was only the upgraded account you paid fees on, although you can only accept payment to a personal account from someone with funds ie-not credit card payments or payments that are pulled from banks:?

Its free to get money from an account which pays you via there balance, but if the buyer uses their debit/credit card even if you have a personal account you get charged.

Now i'm bloody miffed ive just checked my account type and its premier! Which means ive paid a fair substantial amount in fees over the last few months! I appologise I thought my account was a personal one!

Would there be any disadvantage now in changing this to a personal account and is there an easy way to do so or would I have to close my paypal acount (or simply leave it dormant) and open another one?
#17
Ive had this aswell... because i was nearing the $3000 limit or something :o
#18
im sure your right sassie-you have to upgrade if it is to receive uncleared funds and can only down-grade again once too
#19
you get paid to receieve money on paypal, no matter what account you have.

as for the op, you just need to confirm your details, it is due to european money laundering laws, if you pay a cheque for 10K into your bank account, or have vasts amount of money going into your bank account you can be investigated for money laundering.

best to just do what the email says, and confirm your details
