Paypal have locked me out...anyone know what's going on?....

I have had a paypal account for about 4 months now.
I use it for sales here, and I use it to purchase at ebay.
This morning I decided I wanted to make some purchases at ebuyer and as they have the £10 off offer on with google checkout I decided to withdraw my cash from paypal and use google for these transactions.

I added a bank account (I am unverified) and started the withdrawl of £270.
I then got an email this afternoon from Payal
they have reversed the transfer and locked my account.
it simply says

"Why is my account access limited?

Your account access has been limited for the following reason(s):

20 Apr. 2007: We have observed activity in this account that is unusual or potentially high risk.
"

they have stopped me from doing anything and have listed the things they require me to do to aid thier investigation, these are...

20 Apr. 2007 Confirm bank details Waiting for your response

20 Apr. 2007 Enter Expanded Use NumberforVisa/Delta/Electron Card XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-2646 Waiting for your response

20 Apr. 2007 Fax documentation Waiting for your response

20 Apr. 2007 Validate your Account Information for Visa/Delta/Electron Card XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-2646, Waiting for your response

20 Apr. 2007 Provide Business Information Waiting for your response

20 Apr. 2007 Provide Certificate of Posting Waiting for your response

that seems insane

can they do this?
what do I do? I need that money and I haven't done anything to warrant this, nor have I had a payment from anyone with an unverified account

has anyone else been through this?, please, do you have any adivice?

thank you.

EDIT - They have also charged me a £14 fee for THEM cancelling my bank transfer!

number 1 i refuse to use paypal unless im buying summat off ebay

number 2 never leave money in your paypal account just sitting there

number 3 avoid paypal like the plague

www.paypalsucks.com:thumbsup:
#2
They are obviously protecting your money. They just want you to confirm its you thats all.
#3
The bank account needs to be verified I think. You tried to pay money into an unverified account. That's my take on it.
#4
Confirm it's me?
they want me to confirm with bank details, photo id, bank statement, proof of address

it's a little overkill is it not?
the first action alone says it will take 5 working days.
this is just unfair
#5
When I opened my Paypal acct, I got everything verified before I even used the account.
They will hold the money for you, but not let you have it until you prove that you are definately who you say you are.
#6
thats crazy
I understand the protection, but it looks like waiting for things to verify could take weeks
#7
You could always try calling them and explaining the situation.
#8
I've got through this too. Don't worry, it's quite a painless process.

kemot

it is?
they are asking me for business info, i'm not a business.
they want proof of inventory for items I have sold....items I have sold here on HUKD
how do I provide inventory on 2 psp games that I sold as I didn't play them anymore.
madness.

I don't think you should have to do any of that.

When verifying, They'll deposit 3 small amounts and give you call on whatever number you provide.
#11
yeah I read that, but they're asking me for it all
there's a "To-do" list on the resolution page
it involves proof of address and the phone call as well as the bank
it also asks me for business name, VAT Numbers and stuff
it then asks for inventory proof and asks me to "Provide tracking numbers for at least one of the items in the table"
but there are no items in the table!

I'm desperate to call them, but I can't, I'm sat in work :(
#12
They've misunderstood what you've said then.

They think your running a business thats been selling things on HUKD's

Needs another call to sort out!
#13
sounds liek it does.
wgich is odd as i've only sold maybe 10 things

bloody paypal.
as soon as this is sorted....google checkout here I come!

...quick question, what happens if they tell me business info is mandatory?
as in what if they won't do anything until they get it, I don't have a business.

can they keep my money forever?

I still can't believe they took £14 off my total as a bank charge because they cancelled the transfer
#14
The £14 charge is outrageous. As well as illegal IMO.
If it illegal for banks, then it is illegal for Paypal surely?
#15
just wait until you try and get through on the phone
im in my second week of trying to get them to make a decision on a problem im having
#16
The £14 should be regarded as "unfair" and there is a scope for claimaing it back.

With all the business info, by mistake they must have thought that you run a business (have you given them any reason to think so, eg. you asked you buyers to pay you VAT or something similar?). Give them a call (if you can find their number and are prepared for a loooong wait) or send them an e-mail.

Good luck!
#17
never charged VAT in my life
#18
If you had bothered to read the Paypals User Agreement you would know what's going on. You signed as having read it when you signed up to Paypal.
Don't blame Paypal, this is all your own fault.

If you are not a business, just fill in the relevant boxes, if you phone them you should be able to get your £14.00 back.

Whoah!, Thats a bit stern!

I know how important it is, But who actually reads though the whole of a User agreement!

They all seem the same!!

Soz, but I don't think it was 'Stern'. It was the truth.

Can they do it? Well yes, it's in the U/A.
Paypal locked him out for a reason, and the reason is quite clearly in the U/A, also they send you emails about verifying your account.

People MUST read these things, ignoring things does not make them go away and verifying your Paypal account is very easy and 'painless'.

Well generally they are all similar, They all start out the same anyway! :giggle: (From the "i only read the first 4 lines" point of view.
#25
dino - thanks for the stern and know it all attitude.
bueng told "you should have" is always useful in these circumstances.
#26
Well, you should - and then moan to everyone how bad they are when it all goes wrong.

I agree with dino!

Dont use them if you dont agree to the U/A.
#27
Yes, I should have, and now I'm learning my lesson
I posted here for any advice from people who had been through this on what the best thing to do was.
I did not post here with a thread title "Come in here to kick someone when they're down and make yourself feel self righteous"

If you have advice for me on how to best resolve my case, then please do let me know, if not, stop thread crapping.
#28
You don't need advice, Paypal have informed you what you need to do. If you do it everything will be fine. You should also get your £14.00 back.

Did you want me to lie and say "Paypal can't do that, it's not in their User Agreement., contact the Police, FBI, CIA, NSA, CAB, and MFI"?

no, I wanted some reassurance that this was normal, or some advice if it wasn't.

I understand verification, I'm not 12.
but I am being asked for invoices and inventory proof, I'm not a business, I have never claimed to be.
when I call them I am being told until I verify there is nothing they can do, but I can't verify until they undo the "business proof" questions...catch 22.

I don't want you to lie to me, I only asked for friends helpful advice, and if you're not willing to offer that, then that is perfectly fine, just move along.
#30
Well the help has been given. Ring up PayPal.

As it is, our guess is only as good as yours...

And, if you use eBay, I suggest you're nice to dino. I think he'll probably be one of the most helpful people if you ever have any trouble on eBay...

I hope you get this sorted out!!

It's in PayPal's user agreemement. I verified at the sight of the emails and it took a couple of days. Quite simple really. As for the business stuff, oyu should be able to get that all knocked off your account.

You need to calm down a bit.
You just fill in the parts that are relevant to you, if you are not a business don't 'touch' that part.
There is no other advice I or anybody else can offer, it's something you have to do at some point. I gave you this advice earlier on.
