someone has pm me regarding my post earlier about purchasing an iphone on here, it seems a very good deal (abit too good) but the person has no feedback or posts on here, They have shown a pic of it and say the have 100% feedback on ebay, I have asked them to email me through ebay and to send a pic with there usernames on, I can pay for the item via paypal outside of ebay but will that completely cover me incase I get stung and never recieve the item or it is nothing like described,
Any help would be greatly appreciated
Many thanks in advance

Could you not ask them to post it first and you'll pay when it's received and everything's okay ? Lots of people ask/do that on here.
#2
Dodgy, done through pm is not allowed, report them :)

They are a scammer

Anyone who is essentally anonymous and offering you someting of high value for not very much money is likely to be a scammer. Anyone looking to buy an iPhone is likely to be a scamee. You're in danger if you don't go through the official channels to get an iPhone, no matter how legit the path might look.

But if i bought it could i not claim my money back if there are any probs? obviously getting them to send it first is a great idea but do alot of people do that as I would be worried about sending something and never getting payed? many thanks so far guys n girls

you will be protected only till £150 in Paypal. For more than £150 they should have atleast 100 feedback on their ebay account

Why not ask them to list it on eBay then you pay for it via paypal. If anything goes wrong you will (eventually) get your money back from paypal. Check their rating and feedback on eBay first. Any other questions just ask me. I've been using eBay to sell for years and have 100% feedback, so if you are unsure how eBay works etc I'll have a look at them for you. I will need their eBay username though. But, if you are in doubt, stay clear.

I love these threads, they really show those who are easy to scam, and i'm not talking about the OP

One more thing.. If you pay more than £150 and the seller have less than 100 feedback in his ebay account. The seller cannot withdraw the money from his paypal account. The money will be hold in his paypal account for 21 days. So after recieving the item if you are not happy you can open a dispute and paypal will refund your money back.

personally I wouldn't touch it witha barge pole but theres no harm in asking if he'd send it first and you'd pay when you recieved it. All he can say is no. Its done fairly often on here with new sellers with little or new feedback.
But If he doesn't agree to that then I'd walk away from it to be honest.

Oh and good to see some festive cheer creeping into some replies. Not pointing any elbows or anything.

1. They are sending something out, not you, so you have no need to worry about not receiving any money.
2. You are covered upto £150 on Paypal anyway
3. Deals shouldn't be made via PM so that's not right to begin with
4. If you're worried about it, then why bother - just buy one from a trusted seller or retailer.

A few bits of information you may find handy.
If paying by paypal gift you have no comeback if someone scamms you, paypal will not get involved.
If paying by paypal standard there is no guarantee that if you get scammed you will get your money back if the scammers paypal account has been emptied - this goes for ebay and outside of ebay transactions. Paypal's guarantee means if, and only if, they can recover the money they will give it back to you, they will not make up the difference out of their own pocket.
If trading on here, be aware that trading by PM is not allowed. This is for good reason and for security of both sides. If they are a serious trader they will make their offer known on the thread and abide by the rules.
I would be sceptical if I was you and pass on the offer this time. I bought an iphone off a reputable trader on here last weekend and could not be happier, it all went smoothly, there are genuine people on here, and they tend to abide by the rules so stay away from trading by PM.
If you are desperate, if you have an MBNA card (like virgin atlantic amex) go to the mbna lifestyle rewards website and buy love2shop vouchers at 7% discount which you can spend at many retailers including carphone warehouse. If you are thinking of payg this has the advantage of coming with the o2 iphone sim which includes 12 months free wifi.

oh and I wouldn't bank on paypal getting your cash back either if you you did go through with it and it was a scam. Contrary to the above posts paypal in the great scheme of things offers little protection. As soon as you pay then he'll empty the account and you'll never see it again even if paypal find in your favour. You'll get the we were unable to recover your funds email and the holding the cash thing is only on high risk ebay items which is all abit random.

i think its a bad idea.
- offering thru pm sounds not genuine
- no feedback (i wonder if he/she just registered recently)
- non-ebay paypal payment is not protected

The Paypal Scam.

Ok, this is how it goes down. I've got an Iphone, yours for £100 paypal special delivery included, pm me if interested and i'll give you my paypal details. Cheers got your money will post you a block of special delivery newspapers in the morning. Item not as described you say? Sorry mate, that only works on ebay. Item not recieved you say? I specifically sent it special delivery to prove you got it, right i'm off down the pub, drinks are on you. Cheers :)

I shouldn't really have posted that as it gives people ideas, but what the hell, we all need a bit of extra cash at Xmas eh?
