Paypal keeps holding payments...arghhhh

Paypal really sticks in the knife when it continues to hold payments for 21 days before it releases them...nicely earning some interest on these held payments along the way. I sell on ebay every now and then, but Paypal deems it necessary to hold most, if not all, of my payments. So friggin' annoying. Uses some bizarre logic of keeping ebay a safe place...yeah right!

I really wish there were an alternative to both ebay and Paypal...baskets, the lot of them...

I've been on ebay for over 4 years and have 100% feedback...what more do they need? They have my credit card details on file, so if something goes wrong they can always make a charge on it....

try selling here first.
Okay, fair enough they can't charge your cc, but 21 days is an inordinately long time for those who rely on the proceeds of sales to keep them going. It's great for buyers, I agree and in most cases Paypal rules in their favour.

There was one instance when a buyer paid via echeque, which took around 10 days. When the payment was cleared, Paypal slapped on its 21 days embargo on it. Took a month before I could withdraw the amount.

I can understand if sellers had less than 100% feedback, but that's not the case with me.
Touch wood i've never had a payment held. Sold about 20 things and have a feedback of 74. Last item I sold I'd guess was high risk, was a phone for £77 delivered. Didn't get held.
Hmm, sounds like your e-Cheques.

Make sure your account has your current bank card details up-to-date.

I had a similar problem, sending payment and wondering why they hadn't received the money straight away.
I've been using paypal for 6 years and they have now started to hold payments to me. Absolute con. I would be happy if they at least released the postage amount...your meant to send the item without even having that??
Precisely...I'm sure they're making a huge packet out of these held payments by way of interest. Those who haven't had their payments held are very lucky indeed! Dealing with a paypal rep is quite an arduous task in itself.
It's totally a farce now especially for newbies.... I sell/buy all the time never had anything held yet...

I opened an account for the missus a few weeks back, sold a few small value items, no probs, biggie at over £100 (HELD)

No way was I sending the item to France without getting the cash, I emailed the buyer, either leave +ve now or i'm not sending, I stated all funds must be cleard funds before I send lol

Was very luck, buyer left Pos straight away, as the item was rather rare...

3 days later, cash was cleared, I then sent, just aswell, buyer moaned when he received brand new boxed item, ---- knows what would have happened if I never receievd the cash 1st

Terrible antics now....

You're quite lucky in that the buyer left feedback before he received the item. Must say that's as rare as the item you sold, I guess!

It was, I was very surprised, I have never asked before, my ebay is 1400+ but I used the missus new account with 7 feedback because I could not list until I sorted my fees out etc...

Amazed, I was.... But yes it was the only 1 on ebay, a long discontinued collectors piece... ;-)

They held it as it was a newish account and the first high risk transaction. PP can't win here, they are slated for fraud, then bring in restrictions to combat it and they are slated. You are pre warned before listing if you listing may be subject to hold, most people ignore it or don't read it. If you don't agree don't list.

I knew that might happen TB... I was not sure what the value cut off was though.... £100 £500 etc

I know now, i've seen it happen to loads of people over the last 18 months now etc...
