If someone could have a look at this I would be grateful. I want it for gaming and general use. Monitor is 19" but will also connect to 40" TV.

First time for a complete build but tinkered with my existing PC for years. I bought my last pre built PC 9 years ago. It has done me great after a few upgrades, but now I want to get back in the 'game'. This is my proposal:

CPU: AMD Phenom II X4 965 Black Edition, S AM3, 3.4GHz, 8MB Cache, 125W, Retail. - £129.12

MOBO: Gigabyte GA-MA770T-UD3 AMD 770 AM3 Motherboard - £58.48

RAM: 4GB (2x2GB) Corsair DDR3 PC3-10666 (1333) Non-ECC Unbuffered, CAS 9-9-9-24, 1.50V - £72.97

GPU:1GB XFX HD 5850, PCI-E 2.1 (x16), 4000MHz GDDR5, GPU 725MHz, 1440Cores, 2x DL DVI-I/ HDMI/ DP - £216.19

PSU:Corsair 650 W TX PSU - £59.89

CASE:Antec 600 Six Hundred Ultimate Gaming Case, Black, Mid Tower with Side Window, w/o PSU - £55.20

HARD DRIVE: 1TB Samsung HD103SJ Spinpoint F3 Hard Drive - £46.40

OPTICAL:Pioneer DVR-S18LBK 22x DVD±R, 12x DVD±DL, DVD+RW x8/-RW x6, RAM x12, SATA, Black, Retail Labelflash - £17.50

A branded power supply and a case with good flow is important to me (if anyone can recommend a better case?) as I had a cheapo PSU blowing in the past and problems with my old PC overheating in my cupboard. So it is important that this is right. I also intend to add two IDE devices (old hard drive and optical drive), as well as a PCI WI-FI and a front bay card reader. Already have OS, monitor, keyboard, mouse etc

Thanks, hopefully someone will have a look for me.

I have links to all of these but HOTUKDEALS won't let me post them, it gives me an error when I include them. All prices and products are from SCAN.CO.UK

Good bud not sure about the RAM though, timings on my 800Mhz are 4-4-4-15...is it normal for them to be almost as twice as slow for faster ram?

That's one of the things I'm debating - DDR2 or DDR3. It seems silly to get DDR2 but when you look at it closer, DD2 is still a better option I reckon. Don't know though.

Looks great, but i'd change your CPU to the 955 instead, as it's alot cheaper and the only difference is 0.2ghz, which you can cover easily by overclocking the 955. Shouldn't have an impact on heat whatsoever.

The price by the way for the 955 is around £105 on Aria.co.uk :)

Good luck!

How easy is it to overclock the 955 safely? Will it run OK 24/7 with only 0.2ghz overclock?

Any guides?

Cheers

I haven't done it myself, but my Mobo came with a CD with a load of utilities and i think one is called AMD Overdrive or something where you just move a slider. With a bit of googling you could do it easily and it would still be very stable as it wouldnt require voltage tweaks or anything.

I dont think you'd notice a performance difference anyway if you're not fussy.
