Easy option. Don't run Vista.

I wouldn't bother with vista or any 64 bit editions.

Personally I'd be much more worried about the privacy issues and DRM than the Vista driver problems anyway. They will ease over time if you're dying for a shiny new Vista system. But just remember Vista will report back to Microsoft on what you're up to, it will do 30 checks a second to make sure you're not in breach of Microsoft's DRM policies (the real reason the required specs are so high for Vista) and it has the ability to disable or un-install software and drivers it doesn't like without asking you. All of which, of course, you have to agree to in the licence agreement when you install it.

Vista is evil...it's official and stuff...

Well to be precise it's an Orwellian nightmare of an OS designed to make sure you can't do anything Microsoft doesn't approve of. "It's for your own good" says Microsoft. "Ooooo isn't it pretty, it must be for our own good" say the masses.

Stick with XP, use Linux or whatever but if you value your privacy and right to use your own computer as you like then don't use Vista!!!
