Decided i know longer need a cd/dvd drive in my pc, all software it seems can be downloaded from web or pen drive so gonna remove the cd drive.
Thing is i need to get a new black blanking plate.
The old one, i hacked, glued it onto the front of the cd drive so it actually looks like it's not there. Was a great idea at the time but now i am kippered.

Any ideas how to get one please?
Beige one(s) would need to be sprayed and when it comes to diy i'd mess that up

Not sure even what to google for.
Example of thing needed (ebay link) in post 2 but ideally need a black one
Thanks for looking

The problem is that different cases have different clips on them so finding one that fits niceley is going to be more luck than anything.

Why not opt for a nice snazzy multi control panel or memory card reader?

I have my only unused bay (2 dvd writers and a kreon in the others) with a hard drive rack caddy in which is like a pull out lockable drawer and its great for keeping memor cards, flash drives and phone cables in and at hand.

Thanks for the reply :)
I have toyed with summat else but to be honest not sure i want out else.
Card reader - i bluetooth from/to my mobile phone so don't need one
Fans controller - i just leave them well alone and let them cool as needed

Can you provide a link though to the hard drive caddy please? That might be of interest and as naive as it sounds, i didn't think they had different fittings, the plates i mean so didn't take into account them being different.......

Not sure if Zonealarm is having a moment but the link you posted doesn't seem to work for me:

I 'might' have some spare if you're not in any rush. I'll have a look later.

Why not just leave the CD drive in there if it looks like it's not there? If you're worried about power consumption just disconnect it.

The case is an odd shape. Kinda long and square almost in terms of height and width. I have a cpu fan, HD fan, fan at rear and fan at front and figured if the cd player is not needed/used and i remove it, air-flow will be better too? I only use it for net surfing lol and don't play games on it at all but wanted it all nice and cool. Did look at water cooling but it just doesn't seem right.........

I have been experimenting of late. I have perhaps too much anti-virus software. I am running Spybot with tea-timer option, adaware, zonealarm security suite (firewall, anti-virus, antt-spam etc). I have XP SP3 and have noticed during boot-up it is slow. You know when the windows XP logo appears and "moves" the blue bar left to right? Well i counted 13 of these. I regularly defrag only have the software on the pc i want, i have limited to what i need for start-up.

I have found, disconnecting (power and ide) that without the cd player it boots instead of 13 but now 8. Not a huge saving but coupled with not using it decided to get rid full stop. Perhaps my bios settings need changing not sure but i take your point about just leaving it in there and, that maybe what i end up doing. Just wondered, given that when you buy a case you get between 2 and 4 of these plates if spares were available commercially :)

Sorry Shengis, only just spotted you're reply.
I've found a couple of beige ones from an old unit, will experiment
Thanks for the reply mind

You have way too much security, you only need one of each type ie one firewall, one anti virus and one anti spyware, in fact more than one can cause it to be inneffective as they can cancel each other out,

Also download ccleaner www.ccleaner.com you can use this to stop unwanted software loading at start up, most things dont need to start with windows the excpetion being security and most system drivers.
