Just bought this server

http://www.hotukdeals.com/item/299010/hp-proliant-ml115-g5-quad-server-2-

Went and bought a PCI sound card but it will not fit in the PCI slot. The sound card has a notch in it as does the pci slot but they are at the opposite ends when i try to insert the soundcard. Any ideas what i need to get now ?

sounds like you have bought a pci-e sound card, they are not backward compatible with pci or it is pci and you are trying to fit it in a pci-e slot....

Is it just a soundcard that you are looking for to fit this server?

yes just a sound card as i just bought a usb wireless
#23
maybe i should just get a usb sound card and be sorted...it's only for the kids so i am trying to do it as cheaply as possible.....right now i am still under £200 for a quad core PC which isn't bad

mind you that this quad core cpu alone sells for £150

if its pci-x then you can use later version pci cards just align with the back and forget the notch, you will need to check the voltage on your sound card is 3.3 or lower
google pci-x

might sound dumb, but you have checked the MB doesnt have onboard sound?
#31
yes i have checked.....it's a server pc and has no onboard sound
#32
all sorted now except some drivers that i cant find for xp but sound and wireless all working
#33
This is a common problem for servers, the way to do it, which obviously isn't for the faint hearted, is to cut out the notch in the slot on the motherboard, and the sound card will then fit
