**UPDATE** Now sorted thanks to ALT key enabling me to navigate reasonably well***

First whiff of somethig up was I did not need to click on my account name when XP Pro had booted. Now the PC is unmanageable. I only need to mouse over something and its 'clicked'. I can't get to Add /Remove Progs to remove last installed prog. Can't get to System Restore expt the one time I did get there and str whateve exe or dll did not initialise as system was closing down. Cant get my Avast to scan as its accessed by right click and that menu is flickering off and on and resetting each time. Gone in through SafeMode and the problem is still there. Removed keyboard, changed mice = no difference.

I have no idea other than trying to 'hit' specific areas (sys restore / add remove / virus scan)before lots of other progs are triggered or , as indicated, the system decides to close itself (seems that is getting triggered as soon as i hit Start button). Happily I have a backup pc but its my "good PC " thats Donald Ducked.

Have you tried booting it without the keyboard or mouse connected? Just in case it's a fault with either/or?
#2
Yep. Done that and its hitting Enter by itself ( indicated by Clicking Username then OK'ing A notification about Keyhook missing . Just put mouse back in and Oh Gawd all kinds of thinks are bbeing activated again).

I don't suppose there's anything that can be disbled or reset in the BIOS that might stop it?
#4
the enter key isnt stuck somehow is it? It may be depressed by a bit of food or dust or something. Make sure your keyboard is clean.

Easy stuff first before going ape on the registry!!

They've tried replacing the mouse & disconnecting the keyboard so that can be ruled out

Oh btw I also have my cursor set to 'jump to' so as I look at my pc now there is a window opening and closing say about 8 times a second and I cant get my cursor off it. Can't manage to get rid of that window...so looks like another unplugging coming up
#7
OK will check bios but don't think there is anything there.

Checked and nothing to used there.
#8
Just try disabling the 'jump to' and see what happens. Also see if your mouse is set to 'single click', if it is try disabling that as well.

Hi buddy...I can't get to any settings like that because as soon as I get onto the Start the first move up is "shut down" I move over that and its goodnight vienna.
There are underscores on some parts though ..partic Control Panel with Underscored C but Alt +C or CTRL + C don't activate it.

Click the start button again and it will disappear (menu, that is). move your mouse up then press the windows key and the menu will come back. Try it that way.

i would say if you can navigate the bios ok its prob not a keyboard issue, try going into safe mode and doing a system restore from there. F8 key on boot.
#12
Hi buddy done the safe mode too and safe mode to last good setting (it did not offer me the choice of when tho..maybe it "entered" as soon as a choice was offered)) still the same...can't get past "shutdown"

I ave tried navigating from a folder on the desktop but cant find control panel.

Will try your idea next deek..just waiting for it to shut down as its a complete mess with pop up windows and stuff. totally locked.

I don't know how or why but the problem is gone! There were times I had umpteen windows open. Tens of rund32dlls in operation. The break came wen I saw holding alt down stopped it "entering" from there I got into add remove and blitzed every recent installation. I also eded the process itype. Whatever it was was resolved doing all that. Will now slowly put things back on and see where it takes me.

If this ever happens to you remember the ALT button might save your bacon.!

Yeah thats why i was trying to get my antivirus scanning.
But these windows were from my navigation from the desktop folder...anything i hit like one was an uninstaller...would be activated then comodo was stuck on a higher setting and wanting me to authorise every damn thing...also the software window for the mouse was coming up in profusion but when I finally got to it (because I couldn't move windows in front of it) as soon as that was active it "entered" OK and beggared off. In amongst all that - and you might think I'm windiong you all up because it was freaky - system restore also popped up in profusion - entered itself (oo err missus and did a restore without me taking part - but restored itself to today (eh?).

Freaky stuff!

Very bizarre, would do a full reinstall , get rid of all traces of that crap that was in there messing with your rig.
#18
