a scan on crucial.com come says my system will take the following

DDR2 PC2-4200
DDR2 PC2-5300
DDR2 PC2-6400
DDR2 PC2-8500

Does that mean this memory will work fine in my system

Assuming there's no compatibility issues, they should work fine. Although, there are a few things to think about first.

Firstly, is the voltage of the memory already installed in your system. Is it also 2.3v? Some motherboards will not like having memory of mixed voltage installed. CPU-Z (google it) can tell you the voltage of your existing memory, so check that out.

Seocnd thing, unless you plan to do some serious overclocking, there's no point buying this sort of memory. I'd recommend buying http://www.play.com/PC/PCs/4-/5399823/PNY-PC6400-2GB-800MHz-DDR2-240pin-DIMM-Computer-Memory/Product.html instead. Better still, buy two of them, and either hawk whatever you have already on eBay, or upgrade to Vista 64bit.
thanks for the reply dxx so in theory if i take out the memory i already have, the voltage thing what be a problem the only problem being you think i would be better off using the link from play.com
:( my system wont take 2 gig sticks crucial.com says 1gig maximum per slot
Don't worry man, it's not unheard of for it to be wrong. Could you tell me the exact model name of your system, or, if you know it, the model number of its motherboard?
Motherboard Name Acer EM61PM/EM61SM ----
Motherboard ID 12/19/2006-MCP61M-AM-6A61KE11C-00
