PC online gaming vs console

So I could never get used to console online gaming since it seems to just be a very watered down version of PC online gaming such as lag issues, finding players, servers, mods, add-ons, etc.

Naturally PC technology was there first and consoles have tried hard to clone this aspect as best as possible. My question is, will it ever evolve to the levels of PC performance online?

surely lag is dependent upon the connection, not the console/pc?

The way a PC handles netcode has proven to be better since it typically is able to handle more clients for a given title (a few times as many in some cases). Connection is a big thing no doubt, but in my experience over the last 8 years PC's are very much more refined at the online aspect which I think is bloated/overrated as far as consoles are concerned. My personal take on it. Having tried services from Dreamcast to XBOX to XBOX 360 and the PS3, that is the conclusion I have come to.

I find that the connection for online games is the same on my pc as on my xbox 360. Although I play more online with the xbox 360.

I prefer online gaming on the pc as it seems to be much smoother although with consoles you seem to elimate a lot of variable which can cause problems on pc's and it also elimanites people cheating thus making your game a lot better.

On Pc people can cheat and allsorts. I have to go with the console (360).just becuse it has a headset, and less people can cheat.

I used to always be a PC guy, esp when it came to online gaming.... but since i got a 360 and xbox live i would have say that i much prefer the 360.

My connection with the 360 (which is wireless) is better online than with my PC which was wired, ive experienced no lag what so ever... the only problem i have is my damn batteries dying when in the middle of a deathmatch on COD haha

Only problem with playing on a console is you usually find a lot more younger people who got their parents to buy them a game they legally shouldn't...

In the early days of online PC Gaming you had to find a person with the same spec of pc as you otherwise you were limited to their speed or vice versa. At least with Xbox live you all have the same hardware.....

I think cheat prevention is way more effective on PC if you use good servers with a reputation. I use servers which have a zero tolerance policy and are brilliant because you don't file complaints and wait- admins usually man the kick/ban console so that problem is sorted.

BF2 was the first example. PC supports 64+ players where XBOX supports 32...

CoD on a game pad... eek! I'm a high speed/precision gamer so find the gamepad is excessively slow for my style of play. Don't mind using it for racers however. Anything that involves a first/third person point and shoot goes very slow for me on a gamepad.

As for behaviour, XBL has really dissapointed me with some of the kids on there. I feel very much out of place. PC online tends to attract a more mature and better behaved audience from my experience over the years. Maybe I've just come across too many chavs on xbox live :S

I used to play COD on the PC,but i found it really hard on the PS2 controller to aim in FPS,but on the 360 i find it much easier and im just as good on the 360 with the controller then i am with a mouse and keyboard:thumbsup:

I thought it was gonna be pretty crappy on a control pad rather than keyboard and mouse... but on the 360 its very easy and quick to aim etc
