Hi guys, im having pc probs tonight, my pc keeps cutting out by itself. I got the windows error report when it loads up and its saying its the blue screen error where the pc shuts down to protect itself.
For the past couple of days when I open a website it sometimes shuts the browser with an error msg. No idea why its been doing this. Couple of nights ago my avg ran a scan in the backgroud and found a virus which was something to do with web browsing (didnt pay much attention as i figured avg would deal with it) but the scan dissappeared shortly after so i didnt know if it was deleted or what had happened.
Anyway - i re ran a scan tonight since the problem with brower closing is getting worse... no viruses found - i was allowing the scan to run its process - was in kitchen, came back to pc to find it had shut itself down... so i dont know if the scan was somplete ...and its been shutting itself down since then. I checked the scan history and it does seem to be a complete scan but in the virus history theres no log of a virus being found since 2008!!

Im confused... any ideas?

tbh I think AVG is terrible at finding virus' my OH had it on her PC for a couple of years and it picked up nothing, I witched her to AVASTand ran a boot scan found fricken hundreds of torjans, ten put spybot on there and spyware terminator, and found shed loads of spyware to...might be wirth changing to a new scanner

I've had Avast for about a year and a half, haven't had a single problem it's really great. and it doesn't slow down the computer like AVG etc. i recommend only Avast

sorry guys could you recommend the best place to download it from? Im here...http://www.avast.com/eng/download-avast-home.html and it says something about it being valid for only 1 year?

yes disconnect from the internet first so save anything nasty attacking while its being uninstalled, uninstall it, then install AVAST or anything else you wish, some others are reconmended on here to, but my favour is with AVAST

google avast home edition, install it, and then you'll have a 60 day trial key, after that you will have to visit the website again, register, i.e. put your email adrees in, and you'll get a new key for free that lasts a year, and then when that runs out you repeat the process, its completely free

Once its installed it will ask to restart and do a boot scan, that should detect anything major, but after that you should updated the virus database, and then run a boot scan that cheks all files and folders including hidden, if you need a hand just PM me and I'll go through it with you at some point, in the mean time AVAST will keep you protected
