Im struggling to resolve this issue, The card reader on my dell vostro desktop has stopped working completly, a couple of weeks ago it would only read my SD card if i had it in locked position now nothing working.

I also just tried a card reader in a front usb port and the card opened but after i copied the files it wouldnt let me paste them that is if it let me copy them? then after around 20 seconds the drive closed itself and was not visable at all in my computer?

I have done system restore and its still the same.

What else can i try? be greatful for some assistance.

prob just a faulty sd card have u tried another working card in reader
#2
yes works fine in the laptop

is the reader and the front USB all part of the same unit ?.
#4
yep, looks as if the port has been damaged

dont bother repairing it unless under warranty

you can buy a usb stick for 99p where you can stick the memory card that way and copy/paste your pics/files on your pc

Thats the problem though, i have a card reader and it opens the sd card and i can see the files but i select and copy them but go to paste them into folder on pc and nothing happens, then the usb card reader closes itself after around 20 seconds. so card reader wont be much help, usb ports are not on the card reader?

Update- just tried the card in laptop again and swapped it for another micro sd in the same adapter and its the micro sd thats faulty. I think the fixed card reader in my dell in also faulty there are lights on when card goes in but then nothing.

So pc is under warranty till beginning of March if i contact dell will they insist on having the whole pc back just to replace the card reader? i have not had any experience with warranty issues before.
